Re: Is Luis Scola Legit?
Does it make sense for the Rockets to keep Scola, given that the team could soon be unlikely to reach the playoffs, and he's already within a few years of the age that most players retire? If I were Morey, I'd be thinking long and hard about trading my best asset for a young player, a draft pick, additional cap space, and tanking for the #1 pick.
I don't say that to pick a fight or anything - I just think that may be a realistic direction for the Rockets this season with the Lakers, Jazz, Spurs, and Thunder as strong as they are.
If on the other hand the Rockets make a couple minor moves to get better this year, they could still miss the playoffs with 40 wins, and come back from the lockout with their best player a 32 year old border-line all-star with little supporting cast.
Just food for thought, and admittedly from the bias of another team's fan who wouldn't mind if Scola hit the trade block.

Morey tried to trade him to Toronto for Bosh, but Bosh wanted to be on National TV more and went and play with LeBron and Wade (if he helped his team win more games then they will be on National TV more). There was also another deal on the table involved Scola, some said it's for Amare, some said it's for David Lee, but we don't know the detail. Morey is constantly shopping. Everyone needs to agree before they can trade. I still think Morey is trying to get Iguodala.

Re: Is Luis Scola Legit?
Scola will be difficult to trade because he is a BYC player.
However I got this trade to work in the Trade Checker
Luis Scola, Chase Budinger and Jermaine Taylor to Toronto
for Sonny Weems, DeMar DeRozan and Ed Davis
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=5744123
I think the Raptors would do it for an inside presence on offense.
Rockets get young and atheltic.

Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Re: Is Luis Scola Legit?
Why would a bad team like the Raptors want to acquire a solid 30 year old veteran? Surely, they want draft picks and young prospects, not great players who are bound to decline.

I was concerned about the Rox giving that 5yr extension to Scola with only 4 yrs guaranteed, but the way he conditions himself and his motor doesn't seem to stop, i wouldn't be surprised if he can continue playing at his current level for 3 more yrs at least. I do think we need to play him less minutes and save him for the playoffs...assuming we can make a run for the playoffs...lol

Decline? Not so sure. He is making these numbers with no athletism..
1st season: 10,3ppg; 6,4reb
2nd season: 12,7ppg; 8,8reb
3rd season: 16,2ppg; 8,6reb
4th season: 22,2ppg; 9,7reb
Can't believe Rox fans are saying he is soft or that he doesn't score in the 4th quarter. He's averaging more than 50%FG, so is not a question of missing, it a question of not feeding him.. He doesn't play the point..

Have you watched a full Rockets game this season? Scola gets SHUT DOWN when the defense collapses on him. He is a second option at best on a good team.

He's at the age where players tend to decline. Some players are outliers who don't fit into the broader trends, but neither you nor I know if Scola will be one of the rare exceptions.
Either way, if I were the GM of a championship contending team, I'd be trying to trade my young assets for a solid veteran like Scola. And if I were the GM of a team that is far away from contending, I'd be trying to trade my solid veterans for young assets.
