An open DEMAND to realgm site mods

Post#1 » by moofs » Fri Dec 17, 2010 2:10 am

Find out who your virus-laden sponsors are and disable them until they clean their damn machines. I have now had two machines taken down by viruses in a three week span - which is enough time to get this stuff cleaned up. Your site just took down my firewalled, popupblocked, forefront-running work machine.

This is public because other posters are HIGHLY impacted, not so much because I want to call you out.
It is a demand because of its obvious impact.

Thankfully I have one linux platform.

Regards.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

Me neither, and I browse this site for half the day, everyday. I get the occasional trojan but that's from browsing pr0n ;p

I got one too, and I've talked to several other posters that have as well.

+1000 to moofs.

hmmmmm.... good luck with that. I asked the same several times and they're fully aware of what's going on, I even sent the source code of the trojan explaining them what would that trojan do to one of the general admins and they always locked or deleted the threads. So, again, good luck :) Use ESET and Super Anti Spyware and you would be pretty much covered

What's its payload? Please tell me that it's not a packet sniffer or keylogger....

I don't see any reason this issue can, in good will, remain unaddressed.

They don't care. All they want is $. I have an ad blocker. Seems to help.

I don't know about the current ones, they had redirection crap, hostage home pages and stuff like that at some point, specially when they were promoting Zango heavily. Now I think these trojans are safer than before, probably cookie stuffing and maybe some redirection, but really don't know since I've a very secure computer and I get nothing. Just in case, do the following:

1- use Firefox, Safari or Chrome. Safari is really safe if you have a Mac, not so much if you are on a PC, still way safer than IE
2- Adjust your flash security
3- Add some kind of ad blocker if you want
4- Install some good anti virus. I prefer ESET and Avast, but there are other good ones. Do a deep scan
5- Install Super Anti Spyware (it's free)
6- if you're really paranoid, allow programs installation only by superuser admin and surf the net as a regular user

Of course this is a lot just for RealGM, but it will help you with a safe browsing

On a side note, watch out if you use MSN, it's a virus/trojan honey pot, so maybe you aren't getting infected by RealGM, but by MSN

Yeah I've gotten viruses twice from surfing realgm. Luckily system restore worked both times, but I might not be so lucky if it happens again.

Don't have a problem with this moofs, just put it in the appropriate place where the people who need to see it will see it. Feedback board.

Edit: Also FYI, this topic is hotly discussed on the moderator board. Apparently, a lot of the problem has come from people linking avatars and sigs that contained the issues and they are looking into restricting those to only trusted sites such as imageshack, etc.

^Yep, Vator nailed it. A lot of the problems are not coming from RealGM Code or Ads but posters hotlinking their Avvys and SIGs from sites with malicious code.

RealGM is exploring blocking them and only allowing SIGs/Avvys from legit sites (like Imageshack, Photobucket, etc).
