x-,
It was a clueless owner over-riding his GM on Thabeet.
If you look at what Wallace has done w/his late picks,he's been pretty effective, esp compared to the mess Presti has done w/all his.(It's kinda weird, but if you let Presti run the Draft for top picks and Wallace for the rest, you'd have a killer drafting machine.)
Wallace has picked up Arthur(27) w/Lakers pick-third big in rotation-whiffed w/Carroll(and traded him away in Battier deal),Young at #36-starter in Play-Off push-and Vasquez(28)w/final Lakers pick.
For those keeping score, ahem Pops,Paul Gasol has been turned into Marc Gasol,Darrell Arthur,Greivis Vasquez, cap space to accept Zac Randolph and the Memphis 2011 First(previously traded away and returned from trading away Crittenton).

tisbee. I'd noticed that as well. It's hard to believe that Wallace may... actually... be a competent GM... possibly even good. I'm still trying to digest it all and figure out whether it was just luck or not. It's been increasingly freaking me out a bit the last two seasons.

I'll say this, trading Martin and not getting a legit starting center or in a package for a bigger star is useless. We don't need quantity, we need quality. Our roster is comprised of nothing, but good players. Martin is the closest thing we have to an Allstar and trading him for 3 more good players is just stupid in my opinion when you consider that the parts you get back aren't much of an upgrade if any over the guys you already are suiting up.

So if you could have anything on the Bulls outside Rose, Deng and Noah for Martin, what would it take?

I think a package of Asik, Gibson and the Bobcats pick is a good place to start. You would probably need to add another pick in there somewhere as well.

And that deal would only be done if the Rockets move Scola for Kanter and we are purposefully trying to get a great pick in next years loaded draft.

Rockets are not willing sellers.

No, but if we go down the rebuilding path, he could be flipped to a third team for more 2012 picks. He has value.

Bulls won't give up Noah and only Asik/Bobcats pick is not enough for Martin.

What's this fascination about Omer Asik? Also Gibson doesn't add much to what we already have. He's just a role player.

I don't see why the Bulls wouldn't give up Noah for him. He's a good player, but he could be replaced by Asik imo. They also have a quality backup in Gibson.

Omer Asik is highly regarded as a defensive center. but at the same time he is still unproven. im sure chicago would be very hesitant to part ways with a proven center in Noah (add to the fact the league lacks productive centers), and rely on Asik as a starter. Nobody knows how productive Asik will be when given starter minutes.

Aaron Brooks wrote:This is a weak draft but its also top heavy, theres all-star talent in the top 5 picks, who would also make much less than what Martin does. Thats my reasoning anyways

Take this AB:
Jay (Bloomington, IN)
Best case scenario: How many future all-stars come out of this draft? 2?

Chad Ford (1:41 PM)
No. Best case is 3 or 4. Likely? No all-stars, but lots of solid players.

G-Money (Miami)
This draft seems to be weak at the top, but has decent depth towards the end of the first round. Do you see any second round PGs flourishing in the league (i.e. Nolan Smith, Darius Morris)?

Chad Ford (1:59 PM)
For sure. I think people misunderstand the criticism of the draft. The top two picks are really good ... but they aren't superstar caliber. The next 10 players in the draft are typcially the sorts of players you get in the late lottery to mid first round. But after that, the draft is really loaded into the mid to late 30s. If I'm drafting anywhere between 15-35, I'm happy with the draft.
