Really, I can't believe that Roy vs. Battier still provides discussion on this board.

I blame myself.

Z3, Brandon Roy would have been the best pick... unforeseeable health issues aside. Portland and Roy both just got unlucky. Would you similarly fault Orlando back in 1992 for trading Hardaway for Webber? (I'm glad we didn't get Roy, losing 3 franchise players in a 4 year span would have been waaaaay too much... he WAS the better pick though)
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

You miss understand me, I never said Roy was a bad pick/player just saying trading for Battier was horrible, as we would have kept Roy if we drafted him, so why not keep Gay.

Just pointing out that Morey thought Battier was way better than Gay, and everyone who says we need a perimeter defender with size contradicts themselves cause wth is Rudy Gay... a perimeter play with size who can defend & play offense!

I was going to argue that, but let dead mules um, be dead, and such.

unless u think tmac and yao weren't superstar players?

Um soo defender with size is better than a legit 3rd scorer which was more of a need imo than a wing defender...

On top of that it wasn't like Gay was a slouch on defense in College, and he has been a good defender in the pros anyway.

I mean how often do you see that kind of trade?

and the funny thing is if we got Brandon Roy, Morey would of kept the pick.

Admit it that was a failed trade, and Morey f'ed up big time.

at the time, we needed someone who was estabilsh as an elite wing defender. we couldnt wait for a rookie to go through 2-3 years learning the ropes on being a good wing defender. in hind sight of corse i'd keep rudy gay, but at the time, thinking we'd get more pieces and our 2 best players would be healthy, i'd give him up for shane batter...who was arguably THE BEEST DEFNDER ON KOBE this past decade. kobe said it himself.

too bad, basketball gods always have something up their ass when it comes to houston.
