Position, current -> post-trade, sasaki's verdict, moofs' verdict
-----------------------------
PG, Lowry/Dragic/Flynn -> Lowry/Lin, (sasaki) Better (moofs) better, but probably not enough minutes to make a huge difference unless we play a 2pg rotation
SG, Martin/Bud/Lee/Tweeter -> Lee/Lin/Lowry, (sasaki) Worse even with Martin Sucking (moofs) Better on offense, probably worse on defense, I'd expect us to sign an FA to help out, we'd probably stay even, really, but remember that we played Lowry and Brooks to great effect at times in 2008-2010, and Lin can probably play better defense than Brooks.
SF, Parsons/Bud/Morris (doesn't change)
PF, Scola/Hill/Patterson -> Gasol/Hayes/Patterson (sasaki) Significantly better (moofs) HUGE improvement. Gasol is 2-3 times as good as Scola at his best and Hayes puts Hill to shame (assuming he was healthy this year - I don't actually know his current status, but think the heart thing had been a known, pre-existing condition)
C, Dalembert/Smith/Hill -> Nene/Gasol/Hayes (sasaki) Holy crap better. (moofs) I'd like to think that we'd have gotten Dalembert over Nene anyway, since Dalembert has always been much better. If we hadn't, it'd have been pretty close to what we have now, but if we'd gotten Dally instead, we're MUCH better at C, and it's not even remotely close. If we'd kept Hill (I can't remember if we did or not...), who seems to have improved a lot this year, we'd have been phenomenal at the PF/C slot.
So why exactly was it relying on expiring contracts to make us better? We'd have also been in an INCREDIBLE trading position.
Oh, and we're revisiting spilled milk, just to be clear. Mind you, it's the spilled milk that killed my true interest in this season. I'll just reiterate here, eat sh**, Stern. But yeah, Gasol might still be able to help us, but in all likelihood we've lost all semblance of leverage and would have to give up too much at this point for the trade to really do any good, and I don't think anyone's really arguing that... The main reason that Gasol's still thrown out there, basically, is scar tissue.
I do think that Pau still needs to be traded though. He's eating mamba glory. Free Kobe!
