We have Dragic's & Lee's bird rights, which means we can sign them to pretty much whatever we want.

Not sure where that $14M figure is coming from either. I'm guessing you didn't include cap holds(?).

The amount of cap space we will have hinges on a lot of variables (# of draft picks, non-/partially-guaranteed contract decision, [non-]renoucing of cap holds and of course trades).

14 million is baseline number.

Rockets have ~44 million in guaranteed money if they draft one first rounder. Thats 14 million in under the cap to work with if the cap is ~ 58 million like this year.

I can go ahead and tell you what the 3 questions will be this offseason.
1.) Do the Rockets buyout Sammy and clear his 6 million off the books to go after Omer Asik who is a monster defensive center who is young. Furthermore how much do you need to offer him to stop the Bulls from matching.
2.) How quickly will Lee get signed and we match and whats the cost
3.) Whats Dragics market rate than we are going to have to pay.

Bottom line is can the Rockets nab Asik, Camby, Lee and Dragic for 20 million dollars

Asik has only been in the league for 2 years, so he's an early bird free-agent. The max you can offer him is the MLE, which I imagine the Bulls will match.

I think the first thing we do is immediately see if we can get Howard which Morey will try, but i don't see Morey wasting too much time on this. Once FA starts, he will work the phones. If that doesn't pan out, i think Asik would be a very good addition though i'm not sure what other center is out there. I think we offer Asik 10-12mil probably. Also, maybe we do a deal with the Wiz to finally get Nene but doubtful.

I think Lee is like 8-9mil guy and we most likely will match since KMart is pretty much gone, thus Lee will be our starting 2. I think Dragic is still an enigma as far as $, but i think maybe from 7-10mil even. He is the bigger question mark. If we don't keep him, i think Morey will do a sign-trade with him. I think Camby will take the vet minimum(1.6mil ?) with Houston being his home, so he won't ask for $$$
Sammy will be bought out if we get Asik or any other center and i think he will sign with the Heat...he lives in Miami.

didn't see the other post from x till just now. if MLE is all asik will get, the bulls should easily match it then.

Right but the 3rd year you can increase quite a bit due to the Arenas rule I believe. If you backload it for when those tax penalties hit, Chicago could waver.

Lars is right. I forgot about the allowed salary increase starting in year 3.

That said, the Arenas rule in a way screws us and other teams just as much as it will screw the Bulls. Asik is a decent player, but I'd be wary of commiting $10M to him in 3 years from now with the way the rules are now.

Well suppose you like Asik at 8 mil per year for 3 years, thats 24 million you are willing to spend.

offering 5 / 5 / 14 would completely dick over the Bulls. If they match in in 2014 they would have 60 million committed to Rose, Noah, Boozer and Asik. Thats without whatever money it costs to retain Deng and Taj, which could easily eclipse 15-20 million.

The tax penalty for them that year would be HUGE and thats for only 6 players!

That's what I'm saying.

Commiting $14M of salary in a year to Omer Asik is insane.
If you add another year it becomes more reasonable, but the $ number in year 3 and 4 will still be rather big.

Having Camby at minimum salary and Montejounas on a rookie scale makes that one year hit very managable. Camby is making 9 now, Dally 7, Martin 11. 14 for a one year hit is doable, specifically if you are getting him for 5 in the early years.

Besides, Dwight Howard will be a Rocket by then so we will be well into the luxury tax anyway ;)

I think he will be offered 10mil....seriously doubt any team will offer him 14mil, that is like Chandler money and no way he is better than Chandler.
