Raptor Fan Here

Post#1 » by TheBathinApe » Fri Jul 6, 2012 4:48 pm

Raptor fan here, just looking to find out more about Kyle Lowry.

What are his strengths? weaknesses? What can we as raptor fans, expect from him?

I knew he was doing good last season, but didn't really get to see him play. I did watch him a lot when he was backing up Brooks but I'm assuming he's changed since then.

Any info would be much appreciated.

His biggest strengths are his defense and toughness. He is always gonna play hard, and will likely shoot well from 3. His midrange game is seriously lacking. He is good at getting to the foul line because he doesnt shy away from contact. Surprisingly athletic for his build as well. I remember one game I was at this past season on New Year's Eve when he got a chasedown block that was pretty damn epic.

Imo he was the rockets best player for the past 2 seasons.

Strengths

-top 2 rebounding pg
-top 5 defendder at his position
-competitor, bulldog mentality
-above average vision. Unselfish. Good at finding open man during fast break.
-improved his outside shooting each and every year with us
-hard worker, great work ethic

Weaknesses

-shot selection the past season was suspect. Prone to taking 29 foot 3 pointer.
-me vs world mentality. Bitchy attitude?
-has taken a likeness to flopping

Lowry would've been the perfect pg to play with Yao, T-Mac, and Battier during those 04-09 years

I actually think that would be Brooks, his 3pt shooting helps spread the floor and his defensive shortcomings can be covered by Shane and Yao

Don't get me started I was just thinking how dangerous Lowry and Scola would be if we had a healthy Mac and Yao....

A ball dominant PG, who aggressively drives and is good at getting to the hoop/FT line and setting up teamates. Great rebounder, will fill up the stat sheet with renounds/assists/steals. Gritty team defender with tons of effort, but gets sometimes gets a little lazy in solo coverage (seen him get blown by a few times). Developed a good shot last year, but I am not 100% on his awkward release, so it could be a fluke season. Recently became a little less aggressive getting to the hoop when his outside shot started going in. Super competetive and somewhat pouty when things don't go his way. Always yaps at the ref just about after every play. Sometimes a little too aggressive and out of control. Great in transition. Lowry reminds me of a better version of Marcus Banks, who you are probably familair with in Toronto.

Overall, you will like him. You should hope however that he starts and does not come off the bench after Calderon, because his poutiness with flare up.

Guys he only bitched caused when he got back McHale rarely played him when we started losing.

Also Lowry is pretty damn clutch, or at least his clutchness passes the eye test.
He is also a good leader.

Lowry improved his 3 point shooting. the Last couple seasons he shot around 37-38%. Brooks in his short career had one season of just under 40% and the other seasons below 37%. Lowry's defense would have made him a better fit in those year imo.

I remember those seasons. Rafer Alston did a decent job as that starting point guard but he was a liability as a 3 point shooter and he had open 3's every game.

how is he with the pick and pop/roll? I feel like this will be important with Bargnani and Valanciunas on the team.

He is one of the worst mid range shooters in the game. Definately not a strength.

Thanks for the replies guys.

In comparison to Jose, it sounds like he's a very different player. The only thing they seem to have in common is they play hard and can shoot the 3.

I feel that Lowry is a lateral move in terms of personal impact. It's just that him and Jose impact the game in different ways. Hopefully he proves me wrong and proves to be a better fit than Jose is.
