I think it is interesting Mchale decided to bench the starters. Dmo's D was horrendous but thats to be expected against Zbo/Gasol. Harden let Tony Allen get uncontested layup all night cutting to the rim. Definitely tried to send a message. I'm ok with that. Starters were super flat.
The only starter that played well was Parsons.

Can somebody ask Mchale why the **** Tjones isn't playing?
He looks like ,from limited minute granted, to be a strong finisher and good defender. He's also legit 6'10, runs the floor well and spaces the floor a little bit. Seems like a nice hybrid of Dmo/Trob.
I dont understand why hes not playing. He's gotta be a significantly better defender than Dmo right now.

maybe im oldschool...
but if you really want to send a message... you put your starters back in the game... they dont start play better after being benched they embarrass themselves on the floor...
Mchale should know better... you got to give your starters the ability to fight through adversity... teaching them to give up, when you are not doing well is not a good message...
o well im sucking it up... coach is going to pull me now... ill do better the next game after sitting on the pine for the rest of the game...

Mchale is a totally clueless coach.
"The bench brings energy."
Energy this, spark that....They're not going to have much energy or spark left if you play them 16 minutes straight without rest! This comes right after his game burning Harden into the ground in one of the worst shooting performances of the season. 24 straight minutes without rest in the second half. SMH.

same reason why morris (even though he sucks) not playing last year
nba coaches don't like to play rookies

Re: ROckets @ Grizzlies 7pm 3/29 - NSFW
I have no problem with what McHale did. I hope he sent a clear message to the starters for their lackluster effort.
Still, my biggest problem with McHale is that he doesn't take responsibility for the team's struggles. I've said this many times before but the guy relies too much on Harden to carry this team. When Harden struggles, he doesn't have an alternative plan. Most of substitutions are questionable and come much later than when they're needed.
Watch the post-game interview when the Rockets squeezed out a victory against the T-Wolves. "Adjustments are overrated." McHale doesn't seem to take criticisms very well and he doesn't seem to take responsibility in his inept coaching and lack of game plan. This double standard doesn't make much sense to me. He expects a lot out of the starters, but he provides no X's and O's and when the team loses his only excuse is that the team is still very young. So in essence, all the blame goes to the players and he does no wrong.

I wouldn't worry too much about adjustments. VERY few coaches are actually adept at making them (granted it probably looks like they are at times.. I just don't put much stock in it).
If the 80/20 rule was applied to coaching, I'd say that almost 80% is just figure out who your best players/rotations are and play them. After that, 20% is figuring out how to make those players work together more efficiently. This includes occasional matchup adjustments.
Work personality management in there somewheres, and what else does a coach do?
I wouldn't be surprised if the "adjustments are overrated" quote came from Morey.
As far as "young players", typically that's true. Sub-24 players are mathematically shown to not be as consistent as 24-29 players, and most of our team is 24 and under. Our 4 graybeards were born in '86, '85, '82, and '80, and everyone else is mid-88 or sooner.

I liked it. I browse through alot of team boards, and it seems like every board is full of people who are overcritical of their coach.
There have been people saying George Karl should be fired on the Nuggets board, people talking about Mark Jackson being a crappy coach on the GSW boards, Spo being a crappy coach(albeit calmed down lately because of the winning streak), people talking about McHale being fired on Rocket's boards, yet I think most people who have an objective look at all of those coaches would say they're all doing stellar jobs.

Karl probably should be fired. He has a phenomenal team, but either he or his front office is failing horrendously at the 80% part.
Other'n that, agreed, I don't usually see much value in criticizing coaches.

I'm not even asking McHale to be fired. This team has overachieved and given the team's circumstances, even if they had a JV league coach you're not going to fire the coach just because he's a bad coach. Winning masks all this.
My point is that McHale is overly critical of his players. He needs to back his **** up if he wants have full control of his players and warrant their respect. He has zero substance as a head coach and takes no blame for it. I'm sick and tired of him badmouthing the players.
Indiana and Memphis are much better teams, but that doesn't change my stance that he's a poor coach and has been straight up outcoached by many inferior teams due to the reasons stated in my previous post.
