I love how the entire post-game conversation here has been about Lord of the Rings.

post-game? No such game ever happened... I remember nothing.

Also I wanna give a shout out to the new Star Trek into darkness & IronMan 3 movies.

Dude going to see iron man this weekend without a doubt. And other than that douche bag cumberbatch being in Star Trek it looks awesome. Neither will be classics but those movies are so entertaining, and looking at Zoe Saldana and gwyneth Paltrow is never a bad thing (her in royal tenenbaums may still be the most beautiful character to me ever)

Those Bad Boys movies were the ****, and The Rock is awesome so is Anthony Mackie("Half Nelson" is a damn good movie).


Now uh no offense... but um idk Gwyneth Paltrow looks... sickly, like all the time to me haha.

She was a perfect fit for that contagion movie, which I still haven't seen yet, i'm sure they didn't need much makeup for her.

When everyone calls Asik Judge, that is what I think of "Dredd" I think its an Aussie movie you can watch it on Netflix. Really pretty movie visually, cool effects, bright colors, stuff getting blown up, sexy lady Judge, oddly sexy villain lady with a big scar, rotting teeth, and looks like she hasn't bathed or done laundry in months.

This stoic badass(Judge Dredd/Asik) that just does his damn job and beast on people.

I liked the books a lot.
For a long time, I liked the movies, too (not the Hobbit, but the others).

When you get down to it, the movie plot is basically "lots of characters use really bad logic as an excuse to show scenery and a bit of CGI armies running together" - as opposed to the book, which is basically that plus some far better fleshed out metaphors for various topics and better characterization (even if the logic is still bad).

My fundamental misgivings with the movies, and you can see this increasingly as Peter Jackson gets more and more latitude with the material, is that he is obviously more faithful to his DM tendencies than the actual books.

The entire point of the books was that the quest was epic, but the characters were decidedly ordinary. They were beset by enormous obstacles and they succeeded despite that. When I watch the movies I felt like it was a DM throwing together an epic level game with a bunch of dudes running around capable of doing fantastical deeds. Much of the subtext of struggle and perseverance was lost. I wasn't happy about that.

Agreed. That was closer to what I was trying to get at - there's no real content in the movies. He focused on Tolkien's descriptions of the landscapes and events, slapped a summary of events in as plot, rendered the whole thing in CGI, and called it a day. And yeah, the Hobbit took the tendency of the LOTR movies to do this and amp'ed it to the Nth degree. I don't think I could have been more bored with that movie.

I suppose I liked the whole debacle when i was younger because 22 year olds are so much easier to dupe.

And yes us in our 20s aren't as bright and intelligent as our elders, but what is wrong with just watching a movie and enjoying it with out examining subtext. There are movies we are supposed to examine, and there are movies we can sit back and just watch and think about how awesome legolas and gimli are
