^ That first line is supposed to be a quote from Texas. Looks like it messed up.

Upon checking the numbers, Asik would put a strain on our cap space anyway, if this is correct:

His cap hit is actually 8m per season.
who do you want from 2014 free agent class? Lebron is not going to go to ATL. Bosh maybe? Wade? Melo?
Kyrie, Paul George, John Wall, Cousins and Monroe will all probably get matched by their teams.
Hawks are better off going thru the draft or trades than free agency.

Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Thanks for the info on the cap hit. I know that it is a long shot to get some of the big names, but it was for Miami to some degree too. The advantage though, would have been that working towards rebuilding with a high pick or with free agent signings in 2014 would have taken us in the same direction. We could have played through the upcoming season with a good deal of 1 year and miniuml contracts to perserve cap space for next summer, while semi-tanking the season enough to move up in a draft that is supposed to be strong. We could have had roll players that would have been good enough to attract free agents with a niche like rebounding, but not good enough as individuals or well rounded enough as a team to keep us from moving up in the draft.
