And you can't really control players as a coach, you just try to manage them the best you can. Like it doesn't matter who is coaching Rudy Gay, the guy is just gonna chuck contested jumpers all day long.

I think so too. Tonight, we actually ran a couple of plays for a change instead of Harden ISO which unfortunately didn't work out. The AB turnover looked to be someone not being in the right position, possibly Harden who's not good moving around without the ball. The corner 3 was effective except for the botched execution by Lin.

I've bashed McHale plenty but I can't say that he didn't try new things tonight, the guys just didn't execute.

I don't understand the hate. No coach sans Popovich is flawless yet people seem to under the impression that there are better coaches available that will fix EVERYTHING. No such coach is even available. There's a reason finding a coach that will be around for the long haul is so rare to begin, and McHale has some very strong pros too and is a damn decent coach overall albeit his defense stinks.

Also I may be wrong but wasn't Sampson originally hired to essentially be the DC? Maybe we need a new lead assistant who could McHale to implement better schemes?

I've been telling my friends this for years....we should never have fired Jeff van Gundy. We should bring him back. Van Gundy > Adelman > McHale. McHale isn't the worst coach in the NBA by any stretch of the imagination, but he is decidedly mediocre, and this team deserves to have at least an above average coach.
