The biggest upgrade that this team can make is at the coaching position but it won't be happening until we get ousted in the 1st round of the playoffs.

As long as the coaching staff continues to build the franchise around one player; Harden, who's not a true superstar this team is going to live and die by the ISO-ball. Howard is being a team player but he's not going to stay content long once he realizes the team's underlying philosophy.

Active Superstars who have won a championship:

Dirk
Bosh
LeBron
Wade
Kobe
Gasol
Duncan
Parker
Allen
Pierce
Garnett

Really don't see anyone on that list that we can realistically get that isn't a shell of his former self.

Yeah, I don't see a third star as a solution, coaching has to change. I think Parsons or Lin fill the role of that third star.

Lin with another good defensive effort. Shut down Marshanity...held him to 2/13 shooting and 6 TOs.

Ok...I know it's just Marshall...but he was getting a tad bit of hype going into that game. :)

his defense was never really "bad" in the first place. the issue is with matchups. the nba is all about matchups. some players he gets the best of (Wall), others he struggle with (Lilliard).

Lin is a big PG at 6-3 200 lbs so he's going to have some issues with the lightning quick guards. the counter to them is to use his size to his advantage but alas the offensive scheme needs work.

so if he's going up against Lawson or someone like that, then plan to know what to do regarding help defense and rotation and make the TEAM DEFENSE good. then we won't have to write about a player's defense being underrated or not.

now, lack of effort on defense is another thing but we don't see that in Lin. I followed Steve Nash around for a long time and he's no defensive stopper. but you help him out on defense and allow his offense and playmaking give you an overall edge.

Pretty solid defense all around last night.
Was consistently in front of his man. I can't recall the last time a PG went off on the Rockets. There's been some horrible PG play from the opposing side too. Credit to Lin and the rest of the team. Defense is usually a team effort.

Pretty much the only guy who has scored a bunch on Lin recently is Wall. But Wall can go off on anyone, is avg 19ppg and he still had to a lot of shot jacking to get his 23 points of whatever. I think he was 8 for 22 from the field. Lin did about as good a job as you can expect to stay in front of Wall (no one can really contain him one on one). Wall tried to take over the 4th in that game and he had the crowd behind him but the defensive effort of Lin and definitely help made Wall have to kick it out or dump it in traffic.

Last night, he did a decent job on a so-so PG. There was one play in the end when Roberts drove on the right side with Lin following, Howard showed but looked like he "left" too early...Roberts did a nice pause and go for the And1.

As for staying in front of his man, I actually think Lin does a very good job of staying in front of these really quick guards. And his height makes them seem unwilling to shoot a jumper in his face. I think Lin has the potential to be a VERY good defender in the league. His biggest weakness is that he sometimes helps TOO much...if you can even call that a weakness.
