I've never been higher on Daryl Morey than I am after the Lawson trade - and I've always been high on him - but I just wanted to say (I didn't notice anyone else saying it) that the Rockets could actually lose this trade. If Lawson were to really spiral and/or hurt the team, then we basically traded away a first round pick for a second rounder. That wouldn't be good. [But wait... then.... we don't resign him and we have cap space...? I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if Morey could even win a trade that works out as its worst case scenario.]

I think Morey is more clearly the best GM in the league than Lebron is the best player (and Lebron is the best player, still). Morey is one of the best GM's of all-time.

Better than RC Buford?

Pop was the GM before stepping down. I always see people touting Buford as the best GM but I never see anyone ask how much credit does he really deserve.

In a vacuum, yes. But I can see the case for Buford if you're just looking at results. (By results I don't mean wins/losses/titles. I meaning signings and acquisitions.) If we consider that Buford's results are given a boost by the presence of Pop, Duncan, and Holt, though, then his case loses some of its shine.

Morey's case as the best is built on how many times he makes you say "Wow" after a move. Also on the cumulative "Wow" of all his moves combined (i.e., where we were, where we are, and how we got here). I feel like he really is Lebron(or MJ or Hakeem)-like in that he almost seems to be playing a different game than his competition sometimes.

Btw, I took your question to mean better than Buford right now. If we're talking all-time, that's a totally different competition, one that would be much harder for Morey to win.

The guys at Golden State have done a good job. And in the East, Washington has quietly put together a strong roster.

James Harden spends time with Ty Lawson, says PG 'focused' after rehab

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13449092/james-harden-houston-rockets-says-ty-lawson-more-focused-ever

James Harden recently spent some time with new teammate Ty Lawson and came away convinced that the point guard, who has completed a court-mandated stay in rehab, will be an asset for the Houston Rockets.

Harden, who is close with Lawson, told the Houston Chronicle that he "spent some time together" with Lawson "these last couple weeks" and he's "not at all" worried that the former Denver Nuggets guard's career will be derailed again due to his struggles with alcohol.

"He's more focused than ever. He has a great opportunity with a really good team to showcase his talents and help us with that push that we need," he told the newspaper, speaking Saturday from a basketball camp he was hosting.

Harden told the newspaper that Lawson "gives us that quickness, that speed, playmaking ability, something that we were missing, especially deep in the playoffs. We're going to welcome him with open arms. We're happy to have him."

Last month, a judge ordered Lawson to complete a 30-day stay in rehab after he was charged with DUI twice in a seven-month period, in Denver in January and in Los Angeles in July. He was traded by the Nuggets to the Rockets in July.

Whether Lawson will be available for the season opener is subject to debate. The NBA investigates all arrests of its players and normally doesn't administer punishment until after the court cases have been settled.

Lawson, 27, is due back in court on Aug. 20 in Denver. He was ordered to rehab with the condition that he wouldn't face charges until he completed his treatment.

we are really close
i don't want to lose a very important piece again

Howard
rumor some guy is posting on CF
the info the so-claimed themselves as insider is sometime good to read and sometime just bother you
i mean it's summer time
everyone should go enjoy their vacation with their family
wth is Harden doing planning a team activity in Miami for?
rumor say Harden plan a team activity in Miami and only him, Beverley and Howard show up
and only Howard and Beverley actually show up to the activity, Harden went missing
this kind of thing got me thinking really?

I don't think any of this was really true. Harden was at summer league with Ariza and Bev for awhile and has hosted some local camps. Howard has done his camps and has been travelling.

Sounds like a nonsense insider, plus these guys are co-workers. They don't need to be best friends.

I imagine Howard is going to beast on the League this season, even if Capela gets more minutes to keep Dwight fresh.

Nuggets have waived Papa, Prig and now Dorsey. Wonder if Nick Johnson makes their squad?

Papa and Prig are expected because their contract is not guaranteed
Dorsey is believe is partial guaranteed
Johnson is less than a million
good to keep around
his 3rd and 4th year are not guaranteed

As much as I love Morey, even I can't give him better props than Buford.

.... yet.
Morey 2020.
