This season is year 3 of his 5 year contract. He will be an unrestricted free agent in 2 years during the summer of 2018. I think time is running out and I could see him wanting to leave for the Lakers or Clippers by then.
Can we trade him for Jimmy Butler, who won't be a UFA until 2020 and is a local product.

I don't think Butler is less distracting or less a "problem" if you see harden as one. Since he became a star he's been clashing with guys like Rose and Noah and I'm pretty sure he's trying to get Hoiberg fired. Not to mention he can't stay healthy for 70 games in a season ever
