According to Marc Stein: "Assistant Coach Buzz: Rockets still making hard push to try to hire James Harden favorite Rex Kalamian away from Toronto ... as are Wizards"

Also said D'Antoni and Scott Brooks are chasing hard but Casey really wants to keep Rex on their staff

Rockets have hired Bucks assistant, Josh Oppenheimer.

The guy has a good reputation for working with young players, and he's a good shooting coach.

God knows we need all the good shooting we can get!

Idk, apart from KJ, maybe Harrell, who needs shooting coach? Brewer is too old to adjust, our new recruits shoot lights out.

Dekker. Capela needs help with his free throw shot. Looks like our shooting coach made it worse than it was when he first came in. It went in the same but it looks so much more mechanical and hitch-y than it did last year

Capela's FT looked a lot smoother at the beginning of last season. He introduced a lot of arc in it, which actually worked. He was close to 60% the first few weeks I think, quite a pleasant eye opening. I don't know what the heck happened afterwards, like his whole summer of work went straight into sink. Well yeah, Dekker the Dagger, is streaky, he shot very well on his run to the NCAA championship game. His problem is more of adapting to the NBA distance rather than not knowing how to shoot (hello Brewer).

Yeah but a shooting coach helps that too. Brewer is just a lost cause lol

My opinion on that was that it was to protect Finch. I think that they knew that the season was going to be a dumpster fire after getting rid of McHale and knowing that they wouldn't bring anyone in during the season. I think that JBB at the helm was less of a hit in terms of future resume moves. He's still really young and I don't think that anyone holds the unspoken season against him all that much.

If they had turned it over to Finch then the narrative would have been different. That would have been Morey's guy that they have been grooming, so it would look worse.

Just my opinion.

Not so much for Morey as I believe it was to protect Finch.

Plus, while Finch is much better at tactics (proven by his excellent offense at RGV), JBB is a lot closer to the players, a man's man. I think Moray already saw the locker room issues, and was hoping by bringing JBB up it could fix that. Unfortunately, the locker room was beyond fix unless we are talking about someone like Thibs or JVG.

Protecting Finch yes, but also a false faith on JBB to bring key players together which he also failed to do!
