Whither Morey?

Post#1 » by moofs » Tue Nov 22, 2016 7:09 pm

I don't know that I have a lot to contribute to this, but I wonder what's going on with the Rockets' front office?
http://hoopshype.com/salaries/houston_rockets/

Of our cap space used this year, we have 30 million toward 2 guys who, while effective at the 3 ball, are doing NOTHING else.

Anderson and Gordon are both shooting the fairly well, but that's it.

Then we went out and got Nene, who, while not playing "bad" per se, isn't setting the world on fire with his 34 year old legs.

I'm willing to give this one a pass because $3m for a backup C is NOTHING in the modern NBA.)

All this after signing Brewer last year at FAR higher than his market value seems like it should have been

Those 4 guys are $41,631,201 this year, and $40,100,841 next year, with Anderson and Gordon tying up another $35 per year for 2 years after that.
Thankfully Dekker seems to have panned out, Harrell isn't playing bad, and Harden, Ariza, and Bev seem to be Harden, Ariza, and Bev, but our free agency plays just don't seem very Morey-esque.

I just wonder if something is going on. Doesn't seem like S.O.P.
Morey 2020.

i'm nowhere near the "Fire Morey" bandwagon. I think it's too soon to make a definite opinion on Morey's spending from this most recent free agent class. I need to see how the market looks next summer and how much money slightly above average players are making. One thing we did need this summer were shooters, and Morey got exactly that.

In regards to the Brewer contract, I'm taking a guess that Morey wanted to keep the core of that WCF team together at any cost.

I haven't posted here much the last 2 years, but I've never been on the "Fire Morey" bandwagon.
I just think those signings are strange, is all. I've seen a couple posts suggesting that Les decided to become more involved again.

Well, so far the signings have all worked out, and D'Antoni is looking like the right choice after all. So either Les is smarter than we think or it was Morey

If the Rockets flip D Mo at the trade deadline for another wing defender with length that can also hit an open shot at the trade deadline- they might be the only team in the west that can stop Golden St. I watched Joe Ingles defend Curry, Klay and Durant on different possessions and hit 3s. Thats the kind of player that could work with Ariza and switch everything the Warriors attempt.

The 90 days until he can be traded run through the deadline. Can't be traded until the off season

Return to Houston Rockets
