Midterm Grade: The Free Agents

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Wed Jan 11, 2017 8:41 pm

Splash Gordon and Ryan Anderson seem like natural fits in the D'Antoni system. Splash has to be considered a 6th Man candidate and he has already hit his career-high in a season for 3-pointers made. Anderson hasn't been as consistent; but he appears to be every bit of the stretch-four that Morey has wanted for years. Nene has been effective in the minutes he has played, and has brought some solid veteran leadership to the team.

These guys were the big Free Agent acquisitions for the Houston Rockets in the offseason. How do you feel that they've measured up so far? What more do you want to see from them? Will they help attract future free agents by showing how efficient & high-powered this offense is capable of being on any given night?

Voted B. Gordon looks like an absolute steal for now and the near future, the B is because while the Ryno deal looks good this year I'm not too optimistic about how that deal will look 2 years from now

Ryno is who we thought he was, a hit-or-miss guy who can have a crappy night or blow up to 20+ points. We brought in a bench player to play PF and he's been decent overall, not impressive but overall masked by the fact that any one of Ryno, Gordon, Capela and Ariza can help contribute with scoring... I do agree that Morey is going to regret his signing soon. His rebounding has been pretty pathetic for a PF, and he doesn't bring a lot to the table other than his shooting, but again Ariza, Harden and Beverly who are all great rebounders for at their positions.

I didn't expect Gordon and Nene to be this effective. Gordon can be Steph Curry in certain situations and His Airness in other situations. He's lost a lot of athleticism over the years, but still really impressed with his game and gives the team a second creator. Nene, I thought he was also another washed up guy but he's a great citizen on the bench and impressed with how good his hands are.

Voted B, B+ if we're using collegiate grading :) So yeah, let's not kid ourselves. No one saw how well these guys would fit with Harden and MDA. We're supposed to be a near fringe playoffs team.

Gordon is a very good signing
Anderson is good too, but too expensive
we didn't get a decent backup pg
