Hypothetical: If the Rockets did sign Melo

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Sun Jul 15, 2018 11:50 pm

There's been a lot made about the falloff in Carmelo Anthony's game, and that he has not been Olympic Melo in a long time.

Let's say that Houston does end up with Carmelo Anthony. One thing that I keep hearing people saying on a positive note is that this could be a situation where Melo would buy in and adjust his game to the role that he is given. A lot of you think that he will be very effective in the Rockets system.

So, my question here is as follows:

1. Would there be any situation where Carmelo Anthony could be considered for Comeback Player of the Year?

2. What would he need to do if he were considered for that award?

Make 40% of his threes. He's done it only once before in his career for a full season (and his first half season with NYK)
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

To win that award, the award needs to exist in the nba

The NBAPA had that award in 2016 (Paul George) and 2017 (Joel Embiid) but not this year

The actual league used to give that award in the '80s

I can see not having the award every year, since you rarely have a comeback player.

That award was ABSOLUTELY Gerald Green’s last year, though.

“I’m unemployed on my couch.”
“I’m starting on a 65 win team against the Warriors.”

Adam Silver wouldn’t know a great storyline if it was a 20,000lb fish lit up with napalm and slapping him in the face.
