Really glad to have 70s again outside.
Looks like we're having V-Day dinner at Fogo de Chao.. I haven't eaten there yet, but have heard good things.

if you go for the buffet
only ask for small portion
whichever you like best at the end you request more of that
they serve you the cheaper meat in the beginning
the best meat always come at the end

I'd actually like it to be cooler for a bit longer.
As for V-Day dinner - go with an appetite and be careful of overloading on the sides.

Yeah, but I'm from Wisconsin.. It's still cold there.
I probably won't even touch the salad bar.

Did you know they closed off 1/2 express parking garages at the Galleria? I found out the hard way on Saturday. Took me 45 mins to circle once and find paid parking. Its quite easily one of the most depressing places in the city.

Due to the construction?
I actively avoid Westheimer in between Post Oak & Sage. Drives me batty over there.

Think so, I hope they are not constructing more retail stores in that space. Parking is already terribly short.

Re: The OT Thread
I drive right through the Galleria. Every. Day.
It's great.
Actually, it IS better than rush hour I-10 between Voss and Hwy6. By a lot.
Hell has moved.

Re: The OT Thread
I-10 West in general is terrible. There is no reason why that highway should not be 6 or 8 lanes between Houston & San Antonio.
610 at the Galleria is terrible as well. I only use back roads in that area.

Austin used to be better but now so many people moving here
it is disaster to go anywhere
especially when those people don't even know how to drive

I made a stupid mistake by ordering my contacts online and setting the pick up to Galleria location when I had a perfectly good outlet within a mile of me on Kirby and West Alabama. It probably did not help that it was on Valentines.
I'd rather pay over the top rent to stay within the loop and a 10 min bike ride to work, especially in Houston.

Imho, it's an issue of bottlenecks.
To steal some computer hardware terms, you can have a 400MHz PCI bus (e.g. 6 main lanes), but if your memory bus (1 on/off ramp per intersection) and CPU bus (ability of traffic to filter from feeder roads into neighborhoods) are both only 80MHz, you're going to start having slowdown issues anytime throughput demands pass 80MHz (if your CPU or memory can't receive the data coming from your PCI card in a timely manner, things will slow down irrespective of how much data the PCI slot can send).
This isn't even taking into account the effects of traffic warping (i.e. you have to initially move traffic from right to left to get initial speed increases, back to the right to get traffic reduction, with traffic warped throughout by wrecks, police, and random lane shifts, which I would suspect reduces the marginal utility of adding lanes).
In terms of the overall process, that's probably a terrible analogy, but I think it presents the idea.
I imagine it's part of why California has a lot of double-decker freeways, but I don't claim to know any sort of solution. Tramways in lieu of managed lanes has always been my thought. Getting people on and off and what to do with regard to non-intracity traffic would be two huge impacts in that situation, though.
(I tried to make that as non-computery as possible for a computer-based analogy, just in case.)

Re: The OT Thread
That analogy reminds me of the old days when I assembled my computers out of different purchased parts, looking for all kinds of compatibility issues rather than just shell out on a macbook.

Re: The OT Thread
i remember i listen to idiot about don't upgrade stuff through retailer because i can upgrade them cheaper later by myself blah blah blah
and then i run into compatibility issue and part is old and it isn't cheaper
on my previous purchase i upgraded everything through retailer (except hard drive) and i don't have to worry about ram and video card compatibility (just wait for sale and coupon, they have them quarterly)
couldn't be happier
i'm still not a mac fan
iphone is probably the only apple product i will still buy (for a very good reason)

Saw American Sniper last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. Very nicely done film.
