Get Ryan Andersen off the team, replace him with someone better. Get another wing player too.

I've never been a big Bev fan but if he's traded to Utah it will be funny to see how many Rocket fans label him as a dirty player. At least trade him to the East if you're only getting cap space in return instead of the team that was directly behind you in the playoff standings.

I expect a super-extension for Harden to come early in the days of free agency.
According to this, Harden is signed for the next two seasons with a player option before the 2019-20 season:

So give him an early extension?
Is the owner willing to pay luxury taxes to add big free agents? Or would the team have to get rid of some contracts first?
Seems like the team still has room for improvement without major changes. 55 wins and an entertaining brand of basketball, should easily be one of the top 4 seeds in the WC for the next couple of years. So they should be a threat to make the WCF and then in a given year, could break through if other contenders suffer injuries.
One area to look at is maybe not have to depend as heavily on Harden.

The extension wouldn't affect his cap number until the extension he is currently on is over. Not the same kind of extension he got last summer

Re: Rockets Off-Season Priorities
I dont get wanting to move beverley. Isnt he the perfect pairing with harden as a knockdown catch and shoot guy who can defend the other teams PG since harden will gas if he tries to do that. (Plus he isnt a good enough defender to bottle up opposing pg)...
Makes zero sense to me. Esp After bev did such a great job on westbrook

I'm trying to understand the infatuation with Chris Paul. What's he going to do while Harden has the ball every possession?

James Harden isn't the playmaker people think he is. Get Chris Paul on the team and we'll have a true PG on the roster.

I'm getting flashbacks to the Jason Kidd penny Hardaway suns or Francis Marbury knicks.

Re: Rockets Off-Season Priorities
But hasn't Harden always handled the ball to initiate his own offense?
It's not like he's going to come off picks to catch and shoot.
Even at OKC, he was the primary ball handler with the second unit a lot of the time.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this thing I wrote reviewing the Rockets cap situation, options, and path to a Max free agent:

Yeah but had Penny stayed healthy, that Suns team would have been terrific. We are also in an era that emphasizes team basketball with multiple playmakers on the roster. See Warriors as an example. They have multiple guys handling the ball and dishing the rock. Chris Paul should be a priority for this team, and James Harden should revert back to his off ball days in OKC and be utilized as a 2nd ball handler. His passing game was a disaster this past playoffs. I'm sick of this low percentage isolation plays. Get Paul and run the offense the proper way. The high octane offense will continue as long as we have our shooters, and everyone should learn how to play smart and that includes James Harden.

Millsap more than anything. He seems to fit perfectly and is a PF, something the Rockets sorta lacked. A 2 way frontcourt player. I would love to see him in Houston as I follow Houston as my 2nd favorite team in the league. My favorite players seem to always end up in Houston(Hakeem, T Mac, Yao, Clyde, Barkley, Scottie, K Mart, Harden, Sap?? etc..)
I guess CP3 makes sense in that you can just let Harden play his natural SG position, but man that means Beverly may have to go. If not him, one of the 6th men will. Just to many guards, and you need to find more rebounding help.

Yeah, they also have literally TWO guys on the entire team that are under 6'6", and that one is an MVP quality player.
The Bulls, when they were running across the league, were almost exclusively 6'6"+ as well.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/2017.html
http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHI/1996.html
Even on the 93 team, with 5 guys under 6'6", their lineups were usually 4x6'6"+, 1x-6'6".
I take this to mean - you can run a lot better defenses when everyone on your team is roughly as tall or taller than the other team, especially when a lot of those guys can play offense, or if a few of them are really good at defense.
Which is why I don't quite see how putting a 32 year old 6'0" point guard with a 6'5" shooting guard and getting rid of one of your four 6'9" or taller rotation players is good move.
"Go small" makes no sense to me. "Go outside", and "go mid-sized", on the other hand... We only have 6 rotation guys over 6'6", and usually only 2 or 3 of them are on the court at a time. If Golden State gets hurt, we might be able to compete, but I don't particularly like building our strategy around that.
Granted, it's hard to beat their insanely good luck around timing and circumstances to get all that fit in under the cap...
(95-96 was another one of those years...)
Morey 2020.

Re: Rockets Off-Season Priorities
6'6 is a weird cut off point. Especially when EG and Harden have massive 6'10 wingspans, so they play longer than they are

Yeah, I get the standing reach and wingspan thing, but since those aren't listed for most people without cross referencing draftexpress, I used height as a shortcut.
It's not really a weird cutoff point. From 6'4" to 6'7", rebound% increases by almost 60%.

That's pretty important for creating possessions, and sure enough, Golden State has been top 3 for the last 3 years.
Combine that with their defense and shooting percentages, and voila.
Morey 2020.
