This is a freaky Friday or something? Neither Tmac nor Yao had a good game. In fact, none of the Rockets scored near 20 points. And the Rockets won?

Was Van Gundy in the Rose Garden or something? "Slow it down, grind it out" game style.

Just finished watching this on broadband and we played terribly until the last 6 mins of the game. The game was hanging in the balance and we went and took it. Portland probably thought they had it won when Yao hit the bench in foul trouble but T-Mac and the role players stepped up. McGrady created and those guys just made shots and made plays. When Mac drove they crashed the boards or got in position for an open shot. It was simply a clinic down the stretch. Landry and Scola were great...Brooks simply shredded their full court trap. Adelman simply outcoached McMillian. Once Mac had the ball he created...went into the defense's teeth and created a shot and they never adjusted.

The energy from Landry and Scola on the boards was great...Battier defense on Roy was great. We played horribly for all but the last 6 mins of that game. And McGrady might have had a 'sub-par' game by some peoples' accounts but I thought he played great. He didn't force a thing...he took what the defense gave him and made plays for his teammates. Those guys stepped up and finished those plays. Good win...we gotta build on this try to beat Utah up next. A team we are very familiar with.

GOT THIS FROM CLUTCH:

Portland's announcers are literally the WORST in LEAGUE HISTORY
Sorry, probably belongs in game thread, but this is not just usual bad local homer announcers complaint. I got league pass and have NEVER EVER heard some horrible announcing from any of the local guys.

Yes, I listened to Clyde, I listened to the bad Marlowe/Hastings team in Denver, I listened to Reynolds and Napier in SAC, but the combo in Portland beat all of their asses in horribleness.

Lowlights:

1. Racist comments: Yao talked to officials. Announcers bitched about why he isn't getting a T, then said they didn't T him up probably because he wasn't talking in English.

2. Constant, Constant bitching about calls. Yao ran away from contact, got whistled.. announcer say there is obviously a fould. Repeated ad nauseum.

3. Don't do their homework, talk out of their asses: Landry hits open J: Announcer says Landry is a lot like Hayes, both hustle and both HIT THE 15-FOOT JUMPER? When the hell does Hayes even attempt 15 foot jumpers?

Ugh. These guys need to be suspended like Chris Andersen cuz they are clearly on crack

Yea we talked about this in the general forum a few weeks back. Their announcers are worst than Boston's b/c Boston's are homers but Tommy knows his stuff. Those two Portland guys never have a clue about whats going on.

But I guess because nobody watches Portland they get away with it. I so wanted to get the Portland feed of this game just to see what they were saying as we were destroying their Blazers down the stretch. Probably something along the lines of...'wait till we get em in the playoffs...we'll show em whats up'.

Funny that you say that, because you'd be ripping into Yao for playing like crap if he has a poor statistical night but contributes to the win.

That's all well and good.

But please don't go over to the Blazers forum, stirring up trouble. Portland fans have always been well-informed and generous, whether in victory or defeat.

Lets extend the same courtesy.

(All bets are off with Jazz fans, of course. Screw them and the 16 wives they rode in on.)

Of course I would. Every basketball expert I talk to says Yao should average 40 points and 20 boards a night. I will never be satisfied with him until I see him do that. He was awful tonight. He knows it...I know it. You know it.

Didn't say he wasn't awful tonight. He was. But there have been nights when Yao has a poor statistical game but contributes to the win, like McGrady did. You don't cut him any slack then.

 Nice. I strongly dislike the Jazz team, and their fans. I hope we blow them out mercilessly.

Our PF rotation of Scola and Landry combined for 23 pts, and 20 rbds on 9-16 shooting. Sorry Chuck...

Also, hitting 24 of 29 FTs is essential to this win. We have to be consistently good from the charity stripe if we want to continue our success.

Just got done watching on LP. Great game!

Good to see my boy Luis with some clutch buckets and rebounds down the stretch - more fuel for the 'start Scola' bandwagon.

Notice he did a decent job inside on the defensive end down the stretch, maybe better than Hayes. Hayes' lack of height really hurts him against PF's that have bulk and height. He (Hayes) does better against either slightly shorter PF's (e.g. Boozer), or PF's that aren't so bulky (e.g. Bosh). Against Aldrige I thought Scola did a better job (at least in the post)

Yao got totally taken out with the zone/double teaming/refs combo. We need to learn how to beat that zone. Not too tricky I think - Zone busting is a standard play. Players on the baseline flash up and across into the middle/top of the key and receive entry passes. From there, the defenders in the bottom of the zone have to react/move and the players move accordingly. Instead Yao just kept trying to post up against it. Adleman ought to have told him to quit it - very frustrating to watch.

Thought T-Mac had a good game. Not sure why some are saying he had a bad game, but I haven't looked at the boxscore. It just seemed that apart from some careless passes, he was doing his thing and everyone was playing off of him. Best of all, he looked pretty spry, and I didn't notice any gimpiness in that knee.

Brooks! Landry! And of course ...

Vamos Luis!

Great game by the Rockets. I know I'm a few days late, but I've been busy. Portland shot so poorly, but I believe your defense had a lot to do with that. The Rockets really took it to us.

I was hoping Portland would have won so this next comment wouldn't seem like I am just bitter, but here it goes.

Is Yao Ming always that whiney? I was really surprised. I really don't watch the Rockets that much, but it's like he has never commited a foul or something.

Anyway, great game by the Rockets. Good luck the rest of the way

because when others pushed Yao from behind with 2 hands it's never a foul
while Yao touched someone is automatic foul
