http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... er-johnsonThe Houston Rockets are bringing in D-League forward Alexander Johnson for a tryout this week and are expected to sign Johnson for the rest of the season, according to sources close to the situation.
Barring a workout snag, Johnson's deal would likely include a non-guaranteed team option for next season as well, meaning he'd have the chance to play for the Rockets' summer-league team and the opportunity to make Houston's roster in training camp next October.
Johnson was drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 45th overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft and has played parts of two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat. He was named D-League Player of the Month for March after the 6-foot-9 forward averaged 24.5 points and 10.9 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the floor in 11 games last month for the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

I don't know much about the guy but I did find an article.
http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2010/3/ ... a-d-league- 6-foot-9, 240 pounds; taller than Landry or Hayes.
- 23.1 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 1.6 bpg, and 55% shooting.
The article states that he attacks the rim and excels in rebounding and put-backs. Yeah, like Guy said he a Carl Landry type athlete. He's also known to be a good defender.
Here's the best part of the article:
He's actually been to the charity stripe more often (202 times) than he's credited for field goal attempts (196). That's astoundingly efficient. When he gets the ball further out, he typically puts the ball on the floor and beats the (usually) slower defender to the basket.
That's just insane.

I don't think it is a bad thing. With Landry gone, Armstrong almost certain to be gone and Jeffries likely to be traded, it is a good thing to see what kind of potential cheap free agent prospects we can pick for next season. I think Morey is doing fine especially we are now trying to get a decent lottery pick. (why not try out those guys?)
Character: He must have something we don't know but Morey (probably knows because he seems to know everything) is giving him a chance. Question is; will he take the chance to shine?
Hopefully he will turn out decent.

I remember him with the Grizzlies, here are some stats to chew on:
19 starts with the Grizzlies (twenty minutes per game): 7.5 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 1.1 BPG on .537 from the floor (PER36 - 13.5 PPG / 10.2 RPG, and 1.98 BPG). In the 8 games in which he received at least 23 minutes, he averaged 11.5 PPG.
He wasn't particularly impressive with the Heat, in the ten games in which he played at least 20 minutes, he averaged roughly 7/4.
Probably won't have any role on this team, but seems like he could develop into an adequate third big with some size - width wise at least.
