Shane Battier

i dont think we should trade battier next season. even w/ bosh, the backcorut needs as much help on defense they can get, and i do think a healthy battier can play elite defense w/ a real defensive presence inside. if we're gonan get bosh i dont mind givin up chase. we got taylor who showed at the end of the season he can be productive.

bruce bowen was capable of elite defense till his last few years, dont see how shane cant do the same, who can guard kobe better. his last 2 years isnt a good indicator on how valuble he can be, he played 60 games 2 seasons ago and no yao ming this past season.

shane's a rare player to have, even tho he's been injured last 2 years (which makes him injury prone in my book), i think we should give him one more try. might as well since we have ya0 and kevin, also injury prone. high risk, high reward with those 3 guys, they stay healthy (specially if shane plays elite defense) the west finals is the worst they can do in the playoffs.

of corse is shane doesnt pan out he can be traded before the deadline, or he can get traded for bosh and get bought out and resign w/ us, i dunno if that'll happen tho. he can also just be a solid backup 2/3

I need Shane on this team. Would hate to see him anywhere else.

One trick I thought of was to use him as filler in a sign and trade for Bosh with cash to buy him out. Say, maybe we give three million to Toronto and they buy him out with it. Then, to make Shane agree to play ball, offer him a front loaded MLE contract so he essentially wouldnt be losing any of his original 7 million 2010 salary, but then we retain him for much cheaper going forward.

So, offer part of the MLE of say:

year 1: 4 million + 3 million buyout = original 2010 salary
year 2: 3 million
year 3: 2 million
year 4: 2 million

if he doesnt get traded we should resign him to no more than 3mil per year, 9m/3yr contract is good, mle is way too much, specially w/ the luxury tax , we really shouldnt part ways w/ him for at least 3 more years. he'll make for a solid backup 3/2, someone vocal in the locker room, and of corse his kareoke , and his fine fine wifey, tall and blonde he got good taste . ariza cant be our only good wing defender

high risk high reward is wat this teams been doing for at least 3 years, should be the last year we try it, shane should be part of it

Blah.

Keep him on the roster until his contract runs out. He can contribute from the bench. And he will.

Then run him in the dem primary against Sheila For-Crying-Out-Loud Lee.

Do it for the children.

I like the idea of having Battier as the future Rockets coach/NBA Commissioner/President of the United States/key bench player

Have we ever had a president who started for a pro sports team before?

...and wouldn't it be a sure sign that the economy was in the **** if the President had to take a second job...?

Shane was barely healthy last season. He didnt look the same compared to the season before. He looked like he lost a step and always bothered by his knee. I much rather Chase budinger take time to play sf with Ariza. And Sg spot for Kmart, JT, Rookie.

if yao can play at least 25mpg, shane should get some good pt. his defense relies heavily on a defensive big. he hasnt been healthy last 2 seasons, and imo that means ur injury prone. but if we're gonna keep yao and kmart, we should give shane a try for at least 25mpg, maybe start ariza and finish w/ shane. see if he can defend well w/ yao in the paint. if he gets hurt again, or he's just not that good no more, then we'll go another route. but at least give him the chance, his defense COULD BE as valuble at yao and kevin's offense. best defender on kobe last decade btw

if he doesnt pan out he'll be a solid backup 2/3, 15mpg.

also an ariza/shane defensive tandem can put a hurting on teams, IF YAO CAN PLAY. w/ the league getting stacked and most playoff teams having their own "special ability" or w/e (celts big 4, lakers kobe, orlando's 3pt shooting), we can have 2 of the best wing defenders, along w/ the best center in the league if yoa can play of corse. and i'll always be critical of our defense, w/ brooks, kevin, scola, 25mpg yao or less, i dunno if this team can be elite defense.

He was playing good defense on Kobe in the playoffs last year. His shot wasn't as good this year, but there's no reason to think he won't be back healthy next year. Either keep him or trade him to a contender, but don't send him to Washington or Minny or some lottery team. The Rockets owe him that much.
