MLE target(s)?

Post#1 » by Guy986 » Tue May 4, 2010 11:41 pm

I rather us not use the MLE and just use the money to resign Scola and Lowry but Morey went on record to say that the MLE will definitely be used. So it is what it is.

Next season's budget to going to be crazy. Looking at the roster, i think its safe to say that we need help the most at the C position.

Here is what i'll do with the money.

Brad Miller with half of the MLE for 2 years as backup C.
Chris Duhon with the remaining half of the MLE for 2 years as 3rd string PG.

3rd string pg should either be on rookie or minimum contract
half of mle is way too much for 3rd string pg

Good point. But i couldn't think of anyone to use the remaining half of the MLE on. We really don't NEED anything aside from another 7 footer.

If its a wink wink deal then we can sign Battier to the minimum.

lets not forget about yao ming and his injury proness. and lets not forget that we have shane, kmart, ariza, cbud, taylor, brooks at the backcourt/wings. and let also not forget we have 6'6 chuck hayes and other undersizes a**holes at the 4/5

shouldnt spend ANY OF THE MLE on a 3rd pg. should only get a 3rd pg if one of ours gets hurt, like this season sign them to 10 day contracts. w/ a full healthy roster we can get have taylor play some point, maybe not but

Ya, but I don't want Brad Miller either. He's 7 feet, but that's about it.

The second unit is most effective when they run & attack the basket nonstop.
Lowry, Budinger/Brooks, Ariza/Battier, Hayes/Hill/Scola + ... Brad Miller? No.
I'm not all that high on Tryus Thomas, but I'd rather go after him than Brad Miller of all people.

If we get Bosh, the lakers will likely be our biggest competition in the way of a championship so why not try and eff them a little more by offering Shannon Brown the MLE.

And also Toronto is looking for a PG and would likely ask for one from the rockets, so adding one to replace Brooks or Lowry or just sending them Brown himself would be a smart idea.

Absolutely agree. This is where the D-league comes into play.

I don't see Brown getting the MLE, and I think Toronto would like to keep one of their PGs, most likely Jack.

If Rockets can't get Bosh, or too expensive to resign Scola, Haywood may be a good option to backup Yao.

Can he be had for the MLE though? And is he really worth that much?

Likely a Second R pick ala Bud and JT plus @ a $2-3mil vet for depth.
If Battier or Ariza is going to be moved,Josh Childress looks good.Has an NBA opt out he can use by July 15,would like to come back to US and Hou could prob get his rights from Atl for one of the Firsts in next couple of yrs(say Hou's 2012 First.)
If a huge deal is in works,Mike Miller.

If Brendan Haywood could be had for the MLE I would say go for it. Brad Miller wouldn't be a bad 2nd option if he can be signed at about 3 mill a year. The Rockets need size. It's just that simple.

The Rockets don't need a 3rd string pg. If Brooks and Lowry get hurt that means Martin and Yao are already injured so the season is already lost.

A starting big for the MLE? Why not Brandon Roy for Trevor Ariza?
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

Rockets can get size in the draft. Udoh, Whiteside, Salabi, Monroe, etc. It's loaded with quality bigs this year. If the Rockets carry 15 this year (as they typically do) I don't see the harm in carrying 3 PG's even if its Llull or a developmental guy.
