Yao's daughter: American or Chinese?

CNN ran an article on the daughter of Yao & Ye, discussing the child's citizenship and the debate around it. Sounds like this is quite a topic in China right now.
I don't think that China recognizes "Dual Citizenship," but I may be wrong on that.
One of Shanghai's most well-known natives, NBA basketball player Yao Ming, become a father this year. He and his wife have drawn much attention from Chinese netizens and media since they annouced they would have a daughter, but now that the baby has been born in the United States, the issue of the baby’s nationality has moved to center court.
Whether Yao and his wife will choose Chinese or American citizenship has become a highly anticipated and hotly debated topic. Many in China see Yao as a national hero and therefore believe he needs to ensure that his daughter is Chinese. His daughter’s nationality is a matter of national pride. A recent article on Tianya.cn puts the national psyche in perspective.

it's not up to some people in China that got nothing better to do with their own life to worry about

i guess Chinese don't like Jet Li (not much complain about him)
two of his daughters born in China (or because his first born is in China)
the other two born in US (i think)
he is now a Singapore citizen

I just want to know if she's going to play at Baylor.
Beyond that, it'd be sweet if the girl comes of age and, pissed over all this fuss, claims some totally random citizenship...like Micronesian.

She's a Yao. And she's healthy.
I wish that was all that mattered.

Anyone born on American soil is an American. That's how it works. If the Chinese decide to accept the child then she will have two countries she can call home. That can only be a good thing for her.

lmao you can't compare Jet Li to Yao Ming. Jet Li is an actor. Yao Ming is an athlete. China doesn't have a lot of really great athletes(who play manly sports, not ballerina, ice skating and that bs). Yao is a super duper mega ultra star in China.

That's just ignorant. Jet Li was also an athlete depending on how you look at his career.

Err. table tennis? China is powerhouse in table tennis.
by the way, the China national women table tennis team lost to Singapore national women table tennis team recently in the World Table Tennis Team Championship. A big upset in Table Tennis history (China had won it past 8 times). Singapore's team also comprises of players that were born in China and received Singapore Citizenship for playing table tennis
