Anyone else worried about our FG%

Looking at last year... our shooting % was rather poor. We had some low% volume shooters in: Ariza (39%), Brooks (43%) and Martin (43.5%). Battier even shot below 40% (39.8%) for the first time in his career. And Lowry (39.5%).

We were the 5th worst team at 44.7% (which is inflated since we traded away our most efficient scorer in Landry). But we were 4th in number of 3s attempted (which surprised me).

The only people on our team shooting around 50% is Scola, Hill and Hayes. After that, the next best rotation shooter is Budinger at 44%.

Should we cut down on 3pt shooting? And how much do you think the addition of Yao will help?

The reason why Brooks and Battier's FG% is so low is because they take a lot of 3s. Martin's FG% is low because he just looks to draw contact and sometimes the refs don't call it. Same goes for Lowry.

Only chucker we have in our starting lineup is Ariza, but that's because we asked him to be the #1 option. I think he picked up his % after January but then went down because of some cold.

I think it will go up with a big guy at the post. Rockets weren't really getting open shots off double teams but that will change with Yao.

imo they're sposed to shoot bad last season, since we had no YAO MING, which meant no all star to feed off of. w/ yao our shooters will get more open shots. last season isnt some kinda indicator of how this team will do next season, it was more like to get our young players develop their game, and they did just that. dont worry about ariza taking 20 shots every game. he had a new 20/5/5 season so i'd say he did well, definitely frustrating to watch tho :upset:

offense isnt a problem for this team, its defense. even w/ miller, i dont think this team can contend just yet.

Last season we had no Yao, so we were a team that mainly took jumpshots. Now we got a real post presents to help the defenders get of the perimeter.

Hope you guys are right about adding Yao. If so, we might truly be underrated at this point. Yao will improve our offensive efficiency and boost are defense.

We were also a top-10 FT% team, and part of why we got Martin was to get us (and Yao) in the bonus easier.

this will improve big time with yao/martin, but both need to stay healthy

the cavs w/o lebron are a lottery team, w/ lebron they're a good playoff team. same thing w/ yao and houston. role players feed off of all stars. luther head in the regular season was a top 3pt shooter, thx to tmac and yao. of corse that all changed in the playoffs

and since the team has developed chemistry for the most part, the fg% should be even higher w/ yao back

Yeah, I love that Aaron Brooks was able to turn it up a notch in the playoffs two seasons ago. Some players are just meant for the spotlight, and some just falter.

Pretty excited for this season. Can't wait. Hope this team gets a chance before any major trade goes down. (Not sold on Iggy). I know we're hyped up every offseason (well, except last year when we knew Yao was out) but when was the last time the Rocket's have been this stacked and balanced??

FG% doesn't really matter. Effective Field Goal Percentage (which gives extra credit for 3 pointers) and True Shooting Percentage (which includes free throw shooting) are better statistics to track shooting efficiency. Our team eFG% last year was 49.4%, which isn't great. Our TS%, though, was 53.7%, which is above average. With Yao (nearly 60% TS% career, 52% eFG%) returning to the lineup, reducing Ariza's jack-up shots, and Martin playing a full season, our shooting efficiency should be better.

Yao comes back - our average goes up. Other players are better for it.
