Paul Wants Out!!!

Post#1 » by College Boy » Thu Jul 22, 2010 3:58 am

According to a source with knowledge of his plan, Chris Paul has requested that the Hornets trade him to the Knicks, Magic or Lakers before the season begins.

"He wants out," the source told Ken Berger of CBS Sports. "He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron's model of teaming up with other great players."

NBA sources say that members of Paul's camp told them recently, "He's not going to start the season in New Orleans."

The Hornets will try to persuade Paul to remain based on the team's new direction.

"Paul won't go public with his trade request -- if he did, he'd be subject to a fine under NBA rules -- but those with knowledge of his plans believe his desire to pair up with another superstar (or two) has gained too much momentum to stop," writes Berger.

The Knicks are preparing to make an attractive offer to acquire a superstar talent via trade.

"According to sources familiar with the Knicks' strategy," writes Berger, "part of the reason for orchestrating the sign-and-trade for David Lee -- which yielded young talents Anthony Randolph and Kelenna Azubuike from Golden State -- was to stock the roster with attractive assets that could be used to acquire such marquee players if the opportunities presented themselves."

I told you guys. He knows West might not resign and even if he does, he's not a superstar that will take them to the championship. I think he's going to the knicks, IMO. He wants a big market and it'd be easier to make it in the East vs. staying in west. Plus NO might not want to have to play against him (same division trade) as much so I doubt we have any shot at getting Paul.

You never know though....

on the actual thread: I'm really surprised he did this so early. I figured he'd at least wait til this trade deadline or next offseason before demanding a trade. This super team in Miami is really working great for us. I just feel bad for the hornets organization b/c now they're really in a bind.

I think Hornets could care less about what Paul thinks, he has absolutely zero leverage in this. This is a hurting franchise that's trying to rebuild and take salary cap relief, along with young assets. We offer the best, if they want relief with young assets than Hill + Knicks Pick + Jefferies + Battier + Brooks works for Paul and Posey.

Actually I'm pretty sure the Hornets really want to move Okafor's contract. Battier, Jefferies, Brooks, Hill, Anderson, and our 1st Round Pick for Paul and Okafor work.

Orlando can probably top that by packaging a mix of Gortat, Jameer, and VC. Then there's the Knicks who can throw in Randolph, Chandler, Douglas, etc... Why would the Hornets want to give Paul to a division rival anyway? Don't get me wrong, I would love for Morey to snag Paul. Just don't like our chances.

I really think with our multitude of talent, expirings, and picks, with a little Morey magic this is a real possibility. If we can land Paul without giving up Martin, then we are legit title contenders. Right now I think we are contenders, but we're darkhorses. But Paul can put us ober the hump.

brooks - 6th man of the year. dont have to worry about sg defense

hornets get 2-3 mil extra but 9mil in expirings

I wish we could get Paul this season but I really don't think he will not move until next offseason.

Morey is not going to move Patterson over Hill. He tried moving up in the lottery to get Patterson. Also that is what I hope. Another thing we would need to find a three party to take Okafor because he will be moved along with him.

i dont think we'll get paul but just for the sake of things i figured up that trade, and hypothetically speaking noh wouldnt trade w/ us if we dont give them some kind of young talent. after the summer league they might want patterson over hill but either one is fine w/ me.

a 3 team trade would work better for us no doubt. i thin kwe should get meka cuz we dont have enough inside defense. we can finish games w/ him or scola depending on matchups.

forgot i added wright, i actually dont think he'd be traded but if they give up on him he'd be good for us

CP3 would be naive to dismiss the fact that the Rockets are going to be contenders this season. I don't understand why he'd want to play for the Knicks over the Rockets. Carmelo? Amare? Really? Hell, we got Yao King, Kevin Martin, and a whole lot of depth in our system.

This is where Morey shines. I'm curious to know which team can offer a better package.

I say bring that little **** over to Houston!

Dell Demps should pull a David Kahn, who traded Al Jefferson to Utah.
And hopefully CP3 doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract.

he has 2 years remaining anyway, he will resign for sure if the rockets are competitive enough.

for the hornets point of view, what the rockets can give is better than what the magic or knicks can offer. plus ariza is what they are looking for years, and his salary is pretty low.

trade idea:
Image
everyone wins here.

hornets get rid of posey and okafor contracts, collison-rush-ariza the new young lineup start to rebuild.
pacers improve.
rockets improve.

cp3/lowry
martin/lowry/budinger
battier/budinger/posey
scola/hayes/andersen/patterson
yao/miller

amazing team really.

I don't see Okafor in that trade. And how did the Pacers improve? = )

the pacers improve in terms of talent in the roster, brooks is better than rush.

What do you guys think of this deal for the Rockets?

NOH
Outgoing:Okafor, Chris Paul, James Posey

Incoming: HOU 2011 1st (NYK swap pick), Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries(exp), Shane Battier(exp) (buyout), NYK's 2012 1st, IND 2011 1st, IND 2012 2nd, LAC 2011 2nd, TJ Ford(exp)+ buyout money

Chris Paul gets what he wants and gets a new home. They dump they're worst contracts while gaining valuable assets. They get 3 1st round (lotery) picks, a young big with alot of potential, 2 2nd round picks, expiring vets, and save $82,534,663 in future guareented salaries. This trade also gives them $53,445,357 in expiring contracts that they could trade or just keep to sign good players with next year. NOH would have 9 picks within 2 years.

HOU
Outgoing:Battier, Jeffries, Aaron Brooks, Hill, HOU 2010 swap pick, 2012 NYK pick, 2012 LAC 2nd

Incoming: Okafor, Paul

Lineup:
CP3/Lowry/Taylor?
K-swiff/Budinger/Taylor
Ariza/Battier/Budinger
Scola/Patterson/Hayes
Yao/Okafor/Miller

Thats a team thats balanced from the 1 to 5. Best bench and backcourt in the NBA. A top2 team in the west IMO. And even if Yao has another big injury and is out for a few months. We're more than deep enough to handle it.

IND
Outgoing: TJ Ford, IND 2011 1st, IND 2012 2nd

Incoming: Aaron Brooks, Posey

Indy gets the PG they so desperately need.

Everybody wins.

Let's not get carried away here. We are by far not contenders for anything but the playoffs. Can we beat the lakers? I wish we could but realistically, we can't so who's gonna call us contenders? Paul wants to go to NY for the exposure. If you're losing in NO, wouldn't rather go to NY and lose? As long as he does well in NY, despite their record, he'll be more marketable in NY vs. houston. If LA gets him for shannon brown and peanuts, I seriously will never watch the NBA again. Even if houston is in the finals.

Nobody can. That's why they are the champ. But we are one of the team that can challenge them.
This news sound like BS or CP3 is drunk or something. He wants to play for a contender, but NY name pop up??? They are not even in the playoffs (for how many years?).

We just spent over 15M singing Scola, Miller, Patterson
There's noway we are going to take in another 10+M contract in Okafor

Yes to CP3 but no to Okafor
If we absolute have to take Okafor's contract
We are not sending them any pick

Paul's knee worries me a little. Not only that, it isn't a sure thing Paul will resign here after 2 yrs he really wants to go to NY and form a superteam there with Amare and Melo. I do not think he has any intention of resigning here so he will turn out only to be a rental.
