Was Von Wafer a decent backup for you guys?

Post#1 » by Bill Lumbergh » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:11 am

I realize this is a Rockets board, but my team just signed this guy for minimum, so I'm not expecting much from him, but wondered of you could give me a handle on what kind of game he has. Can he be a decent backup? I've also read that he was a head case. Any info appreciated.

Yea when he received playing time, he generally played well. Good slasher/ decent shooter but he doesn't know what passing means.

As for head case. Yes he is an absolute idiot. He pissed off and barked at the only coach who ever believed in him..... in the playoffs no less.

Once he gets into his little zone he's not going to listen or pass to anyone.

Aside from that he was a great backup.

He was a good player and maybe still is but he has a big ego and thought he could say whatever and thus was bench in the playoffs

he's a good backup wing. can be a good scoring spark, also can be a headcase. tony allen tho, is a better option for a backup

Yeah, Rox, you're right. TA is one of the best on ball wing defenders in the NBA. He's really trick or treat on offense with his loose handle, but he sure can defend. We'll miss that defense.

I doubt he'll have much impact bc you guys already have Nasty Nate, right? He'll play the same instant offense as nate so I don't know if both guys can co-exist, but like you said it's very low risk. The thing about him though is he's a competitor. Right or wrong he'll give you his best effort. You can't hate anyone for that.

he was a beast for us as a starter, he was like a legit 25 ppg guy if we played him for 30+ min.. rick adelman was an idiot for not playing him more he could shoot and drive and draw fouls was decent on defense to... if ray allen gets hurt and he gets a chance hell do great.

How is he a legit 25 ppg guy if his career high is 23 points, and that Adelman comment

He was good, pretty electric in transition and a solid jump-shooter. Can be a real spark off the bench, but really failed for us in the playoffs where he was shut down by Vujacic's harassing defense, and was ejected out of the game by our coaching staff because of him complaining about minutes.

How was Wafer on defense? Would Wafer be better or worse than the average NBA backup guard at guarding Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant?
