Teams interested in Jeffries?

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Thu Aug 5, 2010 10:36 pm

According to wiretap, which is according to twitter, which is according to Yahoo, which is according to some guy named Steve, which is according to...you get the picture.

So, if this is true, which teams do you think are calling Daryl about picking up Jared Jeffries? I still maintain that on the right team he could be a solid contributer, and now that he's an expiring deal his contract situation may actually be a plus for some teams, whereas it was a total albatross before.

I'm hoping that we could be looking at some sort of consolidation move here. I'm also hoping that this means that we aren't going to move Battier in a consolidation deal.

Jared Jeffries is drawing the interest of several teams seeking to acquire him from Houston, a source told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports. This final season of Jeffries' contract pays him $6.9 million.

The Knicks are offering the expiring contract of Eddy Curry plus other assets the team has stockpiled since missing out on LeBron James.

There is speculation that New York will make a push to trade for Carmelo Anthony or Chris Paul before the season begins. The Nuggets and Hornets maintain that they are not interested in trading their respective superstars.

After the way Morey robbed the Knicks in the T-Mac trade I didn't think they would ever talk to us again.

Morey's jedi mind trick has gotten to master level.

I'll take Randolph and Curry for Jeffries, Chuck Hayes and Alexander Johnson

Nah, I don't think that's what the article was really saying. I read it as there were teams interested in jeffries; then in a separate, but related statement that the knicks were looking to move Curry.

Of course, Morey does yearn for that Chicken & Rice stand...

At least we know there's interest. Hurry up and get it done with Morey.

Mr E has it right.
Jeffries' contract is not enough to trade for Curry, let alone the Knicks throwing in other players.
Did everyone forget the Rox just did a salary dump of Andersen? So why would Morey take on more salary for a completely useless player? Since you can't trade future picks in consecutive yrs,the next Knicks First available will be the 2014 one. Does anyone really believe Morey will waste a roster spot,$11mil of salary, several more millions in Lux Tax just so he can get a First FOUR YEARS from now?(If anyone does,I happen to have the winning lottery numbers for 2014 and am willing to trade them for a mere $1,000.00 each.)

As to original question,I wouldn't be suprised if there are teams w/players on MLE type deals that want out of them.
Larry Brown of Charlotte really liked him in NY.(Perhaps Cha is trying a Jeffries for Diaw deal-and Morey has to refrain from laughing as he declines.)
NO would love a Jeffries for Posey deal as that clears serious money for next season.(Maybe they make a run at Carmelo.) Again hard to see Morey agreeing to that one.

i like what i saw from jeffries last season. i don't know why new york fans hated him so much, i guess it was because of his contract. but from what i saw he was a very solid defender, i'd say one of the best wing defenders in the league and he is also capable of defending bigs. i know because he is a decent expirer, morey might be able to pull off some magic but i like the player.

Trade him for a good player. He's surplus with brad miller and chuck hayes, patterson, and jordan hill ahead of him

Please. Jeffries is awful. The only good thing about him is his (expiring) contract.

Jared Jeffries for TJ Ford straight up.

Jeffries was born in and went to college in Indiana
Ford was born in and went to college in Texas

Jeffries is in the last year of his contract and will make $6,883,400 this season
Ford is in the last year of his contract and will make $8,500,000 this season

Rockets need a 3rd PG

1. Yao
2. Martin
3. Brooks
4. Ariza
5. Scola
6. Battier
7. Lowry
8. Miller
9. Budinger
10. Taylor
11. Patterson
12. Hill
13. Hayes
14. Ford
15. Johnson? Harris?
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Jeffries is an alright perimeter defender. He often loses his man inside the paint. He's lanky so his long arms helps with defense. But his offense is just as inconsistent as Chuck hayes and really hard to watch sometimes. He throws enough bricks to build a house

dont think tj would accept a 3rd pg role, not right now, he can still put up good numbers, and more than good enough for a backup pg, as long as he's healthy of corse.

for the knicks, jj could be much more useful, pairing him up w/ defenders like turiaf or randolph, instead of david lee or eddy curry. play less minutes too, but i doubt we trade him to for eddy curry

Yeah TJ put up his career high in points last season but I don't see many other teams trying to trade for him and he and the Pacers coach don't like each other. Who cares if he accepts his role or not? He could keep Lowry motivated after getting his big pay day and is good insurance if Aaron or Kyle get hurt. If it doesn't work out trade him at the deadline since he's an expiring he would get some interest.

if morey does trade jeffries for ford i wont have any problem w/ it. he wants a 3rd pg and ford could be the best 3rd pg ever. but would ford be a headcase if he is the 3rd pg? in a contract year, 27 yrs old, in his prme, 15pts/5asts/3rbs/1.5stls is kinda over qualified no? lol . its like "wtf, im one of the best bench players and u gonna play me 3 games a year? the **** outta here" .

but hey if he's ok w/ it then get that trade done, it certainly wont help him get the biggest contract he can get next offseason

I'd have a BIG problem with trading Jeffries for the ghost of TJ Ford.

Maybe nobody's noticed, but Jeffries is a highly versatile guy, capable of guarding 4 positions at any given time. Sure he's limited on the offensive side of the ball, but he creates havoc on D. Watch him defend - especially helping out. The guy's valuable.

This may be one of those situations where a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. People like us, who spend time on basketball message boards, got the notion of "Jeffries as garbage" stuffed down our throats until it morphed into gospel truth.

I think we're wrong.

**Edit** I'm not saying a Jeffries trade would break my heart, of course. But it'd better be fair value, and not a David Andersen Giveaway deal.
