How will this trade help HOU? Ariza/Lee are pretty similar skillwise. Looks like HOU just gives up size in this trade.

Lee is a good fit from a team standpoint for the Rockets... His problems offensively center around his smallish stature (he did show some improvement last year, but I wouldn't trust him to create his own shots), but he's a good defender who puts the team first.

I was particularly surprised by his ability to guard quick point guards last year.

He's strictly a shooting guard though so I'm guessing he's going to be used in a similar way to how the Magic used him his rookie year...

Check his contract.

He costs a fraction of what Ariza does. He doesn't look to be as good of a rebounder..., but he shot better last season, and MUCH better the year before. We don't really have any PG defenders, though Lowry's not bad at all. It may be seen as a move to shore up our defense? There may also be another team that wanted him but couldn't find the assets, then we run a separate deal. Who knows?

I have no idea what the other teams are doing...

Good deal.

Lee and Ariza are different players, but comparable from a talent standpoint. Lee, however, is a better fit. It clears up the logjam at the 3 and gives Adelman a guard that can defend the quicker guards, while Mr. Alexander saves about $10mil (I think). Also we'll likely see more Budinger, which I like a lot.

Well...I think we all knew Ariza would be gone this summer. Frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised we kept Scola and Budinger, I thought we'd lose them in a trade.

i thought the trade is we ship Ariza + Jeffries and get Granger

Granger's just high usage. He's pretty average efficiency-wise, which makes him dramatically overpaid.

We don't need him.

This trade goes through, and the Pacers just gave away their (by far) best player for two average guys.

Figures.

Honestly Lee is a much better fit for Adelman's system, I liked Ariza but him and Battier essentially do the same thing so one of them had to go- I thought it would be Battier though. I do hope that Morey has another move in mind however- talent wise we didn't improve or get worse IMO just saved money.

not sure if Lee can crack the rotation (i don't know much about him and his game)
if he's in the rotation
i guess Taylor can continue warming the bench

Is Morey trying to unload Ariza's contract, then create a package Hill + Lee (or maybe Taylor) package and ship it for a quality star? If that's what he's doing then I'm all for it. We have a surplus of SGs and Lee isn't going to start over Martin, so it makes sense if we include Lee or Taylor in our trading package.

I guess it also means that Battier is likely to stay.

Also, the Hornets are taking an interesting gamble here. If they lose Paul, who's going to replace him? I don't think Ariza is enough to keep Paul in New Orleans.
