Would you rather trade Brooks or Martin?

Post#1 » by Aaron Brooks » Fri Aug 27, 2010 3:58 am

In a package for Melo? Now I understand that the Nuggets might just be looking for prospects and picks but we won't have enough shots to go around with a line-up of Brooks, Martin, Melo, Scola, Yao. Not to mention our salary situation next year.

Lowry
Martin
Melo
Scola
Yao

or

Brooks
Lee/Battier
Melo
Scola
Yao

It pains me to say this, AB...

But I'm voting AB. :(

So many factors...we're approaching the situation where Morey may sell high on Brooks; the idea of Martin working off of Melo makes a lot of sense; an offense-oriented PG like Brooks may not be as needed in a lineup with Yao, Melo, Scola & Martin...

I think that we get better value at this time with Brooks. I don't think that the Nuggets - who will be "rebuilding" following this - want a high-dollar, maximized for now guy like Kevin Martin.

Thing is, I also don't see them needing Brooks. I think that AB will go to a third team (I'm thinking Orlando)

Orlando has Jameer Nelson, the poor man's Aaron Brooks

I see your argument, but then you will just have defenders doubling off of Lowry because he can't spread the floor for the other 2. Defensively, a Martin & Melo combo is mediocre at best. Whose going to guard the other teams best wing player? Lowry?

I'll give up Martin since Brooks give other teams a lot of problem with his speed...like Lakers. Plus, if we trade Martin of his $10million, we don't have to include other major pieces. With Brooks and his small contract, we have to include a LOT of players to match Melo's contract...not a good idea. Courtney LEE can always replaced Martin.

It's very humbling of you to put your own name to the trading block list Aaron. How was your offseason? did you grow any taller? I voted Martin btw but why would denver trade their best player to their western conference rivals? and secondly trading to kevin martin for their best player would be quite a joke for denver.

I suspect if a poster named Kevin Martin made this thread, the result may have be different.

I would rather trade Brooks. I think his production would be easier to replace. Lee cannot replicate what Martin brings to the table and putting Battier as the backup sg is just madness. I know we have Taylor, but he just isn't ready for primetime. To be honest I would rather us go after Iggy instead. I believe he could be had without having to give up Brooks or Martin. To hell with Carmelo.

I voted Martin too. But I think they don't have much of a choice, being as Melo has put them in a very compromising situation. Martin, Jeffries, filler(s), and picks is better than nothing. Plus I think we can offer a better package than anyone else.

definitely martin. i dont like having both starting guards (who use up most of the guard minutes) play average defense at best, that can haunt them at the end of the game.

-first of all, brooks only played 3 seasons, already did 20ppg, 5apg, and nearly 3 3pters per game w/ decent efficiency. and all that was on a team w/ a winning record AND w/o an all star, pretty daam impressive. (didnt miss a game too)

-he's young, in his early prime, with virtually no wear and tear. he's only gonna get better

-one season left of his rookie contract

-fast, spreads the floor, one of the best 3pt shooters

-other teams pg has to chase brooks the whole game, could tire them out in the 4th quarter. a good way to counteract his lack of defense.

martin's off the ball stylecould work well w/ melo, prolly not many can do better. kevin has his pros but i think the cons are worse than brooks. he's injury prone, average at making his own shot (for a 20pt scorer thats not good), bad defense, big contract, high risk. even if lee finished games i wouldnt keep martin if it means we have to trade brooks. nothing against martin, but brooks' potential is high, he could definitely end up much better player in a few years.

Martin to Sacramento for Landry?

I had to throw that in, I don't want Carmelo here at all. He can sook the season out in Denver.

Honestly though, I say we make a run with what we have at the moment. There is such a thing as over-tuning an engine. It burns hard and fast, but it burns out. If we trade up to get Carmelo, we run the risk of doing this. And just because he says he will sign an extension, doesn't mean he neccesarily will.

Why is no one happy with the team we have. Even if by some miracle, we could get Star players here, and have a lineup of say......

C: A healthy, 100% Dominating Yao.
PF: Bosh
SF: LeBron
SG: Kobe
PG: Paul

Everyone would be complaining and looking for something better. I am sick of seeing these sorts of threads. Lets just get to training camp, and the start of the season already.

It makes much more sense to trade Martin since he has a biggest salary.

That's my main reason too. With a bigger salary means Rockets will send less number of players for any trade with Nuggets. If rockets sent brooks, rockets have to send another player to made up the salaries difference for the trade to work.

It will have to be Martin because of his salary.

Martin. Equal effectiveness. Much higher salary.

But Brooks is up for a big payday.

How much would the Rockets be willing to spend on him if he gets a big offer from another team?

I agree that we should sell high on AB but if we opt not to trade Martin then we are at least shipping out Brooks, Battier, & JJ to match salary.

I do not want to trade Shane.
