I don't want to trade Martin.

I don't want Carmelo either.

beat me to it!

I was looking forward to the Martin/Lee SG rotation, so I won't be dissapointed if we don't get Melo

Why does management feel that they need two max players to compete ?

Lakers didn't need it, Spurs didn't. In fact, going max on the two players was decidedly how we got into the first round and out hole in the first place for the last 6 years.

Surely cap flexibility is a lot more worthwhile down the road than an extra 8 points and 2 rebounds a game.

Need a perimeter scoring option that can take over games using their impact and dominance. We don't have any of that, Melo brings that, he's a big time performer in the 4th quarter, has been one of the most clutch players in the final 2 minutes of the ball game, he'd be a nice addition and we'd solidify ourselves as a championship contender out west. Oh and he's also not injury prone, if the opportunity arises to obtain Melo you have to do it.

Carmelo is the better player, but I'm not so sure he'll be better for the Rockets. The Rockets have scorers at every position except sf right now. The addition of Melo would mean less touches for Scola, Brooks, and Yao since Melo is more of a volume shooter than Martin. Think of it this way. Melo's average amount of fg attempts is 22. Before last year, Kevin Martin's CAREER HIGH in fg attempts was 24.

Yup, pretty much my thoughts. As I continue to say: we have a very balanced team, both in talent and egos. Melo would disrupt that balance. He's too good to fit on the Rockets as currently constructed, and he knows it.

Melo's average amount of fg attempts is 22. Before last year, Kevin Martin's CAREER HIGH in fg attempts was 24.

And in 08-09 he averaged 25 a game. Averaging 25 a game without taking over 24 shots is impressive.

i dont mind keeping our roster or trading for melo. i never wanted a backcourt of brooks AND martin, could be a miracle if that doesnt bite us is the ass in the playoffs. melo had a year or two of massive clutch shots, we need someone like that. he's a legit go to guy. as long as we dont trade half our core for him he'd be a good fit.

I'm wondering why Denver, which wants to cut payroll big time, would view Martin favorably. Billups is nearing the end of the road and they likely want to move him, give Lawson the keys, and rebuild with youth. They have a crying need for bigs. The best deal for them would be expirings and the NYK picks, maybe Patterson, too. But putting Martin in this offer smacks of a salary move, i.e. trying to avoid taking on a lot of downstream salary. Frankly, with a new CBA coming, it's a prudent move, but if I'm Denver, it's not a competitive offer.

I say do it if possible and only if he agrees to extend his contract before the trade. However I am not down for giving him what the Nuggets are willing to give, 3 yrs $65 mil. That is just far to much money to pay any player. I also think next year Yao is going to take less money and not get anything near max money.

Oh, absolutely. I was just reacting to how efficient he is. It's like a word you use in context all the time, but have never looked up in the dictionary. I knew that "Kevin Martin = efficient," but I'd never compared him to Melo like that. Just reinforces that he's a better fit for us. Hands down.

Martin is one of the most efficient scorers in basketball. He good 3 point shooter and he gets to the line and makes his free throws. That said, there isn't a lot going on with him between 5 and 18 feet. Like I said, that makes him a good scorer, but it's also the reason Kevin Martin never get double teamed and he doesn't create a lot of offense for anyone other than himself.

For those of you who like stats, compare his usage to his assists. Anthony might not be LeBron James or Kobe Bryant, but his numbers do paint a prettier picture.

That said, I'm happy with Kevin Martin. 'Melo needs touches to be effective. He's also spends a lot of time in the mid post where Yao will be crowding him.

Kevin Martin is also injury prone, and very skinny.

According to numerous sources close to Houston, the Rockets' discussions with Denver re: Carmelo Anthony have not involved Kevin Martin.

I think the Rockets should be pursuing someone like Igoudala by offering Jefferies and filler.
