The big men rotation

Post#1 » by PerkinsFor3 » Fri Oct 8, 2010 9:50 am

With Ming playing a (situational) 24 mins a game and no back to backs, what will the big men rotation be like?

Scola will start at PF 82 games a season if nothing else goes wrong. Hayes will probably start at C when Ming isn't there? Brad Miller, good for 15 minutes a game? He got over 20 in Chicago. Will he get there again? Chuck Hayes got 20 minutes a game for the first time last season. (21 min/game in general). 13 minutes left at C.

Scola plays 30 minutes a night. Most of them at pf. So if he gets situational minutes at C, where does it leave Hill and Patterson? Will they share ~25 minutes a game between them at pf (IF Battier nor Jeffries play PF this year)? And who'll come out on top out of Hill and Patterson?

It'll likely be like this:

Yao 24 (0) Miller 14-24 (14-28) Hill 0-10 (14-28) Hayes (0-20)
Scola 30 Hayes 18 Hill Battier Patterson

We've yet to see how Brad Miller fits with the team and how Adelman might use him, but I expect him to play somwhere from 14-24 minutes backing up Yao. The residual minutes at the 5 will likely go to Hill or Hayes (depend on matchups and performance).

Hill actually might get to play the most minutes at the 5 when Yao is out, considering Miller's age.

Hayes has slimed down quite a bit and its looks like he'll see the majorty of his minutes backing up Scola, but I'm sure he'll still get to play a little 5 here and there.

Scola will strictly play at the 4, unless there a matchup Adelman really likes.

Patterson will keep the bench warm for now and might have to wait wait for a injury (knock on wood), to get an opportunity to showcast himself.

Battier will see some minutes as the strech 4 when Adelman decides to go small, but those will come in very limited stretches only.

Jeffries, hopefully, won't play a single minute.

What x- said.

When looking at the guys backing up Yao (it is Yao when using last names, not Ming), I'm thinking that Miller will be limited for a while as he gets used to it. I really see them getting Jordan Hill out on the floor as much as possible.

Patrick Patterson - he is going to be a part of this team long-term, but don't be surprised if he starts off in Rio Grande Valley at the beginning of the season. That's not seen as a punishment or demotion here - the Rockets really run that franchise well, and it would be better for Patterson to get regular playing time and eventually be brought up around December or so.

jeffries has to be in the big man rotation. we need someone to put a screeching halt to any momentum we get.

tbh, i'd give him another chance, to see if he can do anything when he's not the best defensive big on the team. next to yao. first two months aren't hard, so if he sucks then we'll use hill and hayes. im sure they'll eventually be the backups pf. but just to make sure, jj is in a contract year, could do something useful.

C: Yao/Miller/Hill
PF: Scola/Hayes/Battier

I just have a feeling that this year Battier will spend some more time at the pf position. With him moving to the 4 part time, we'll have more minutes for Courtney Lee and Chase.

It's looking more and more like Ericka is a bit of a diva. Every other day, he adds another team to his Wish List. Screw this guy if he can't take a joke.

Dampier doesn't want to do any preseason games/training camp. So even though he might have his mind made up, he is lengthening his vacation.

No sense even wondering about him until a few days before the start of the season.

C - Yao, Miller, Hill
PF - Scola, Hayes, Hill
Hill will take over Yao's min in back-to-back game
