Yao could get more minutes

The Rockets medical staff is exploring through a series of on-going meetings changing the limits on center Yao Ming’s playing time because of the progress he has made in his comeback, a team representative said Tuesday.

The discussions could lead to an increase in his playing time from the limit of 24 minutes per game, changes in the way his minutes are distributed and clearance to play both games of back-to-backs.

Though Yao said there have been no changes in the plan, after sitting out a second game because of a back-to-back, he seemed to be especially eager to be cleared to play every game. The Rockets had planned to revisit Yao's situation in January.

“The team needs to play consistently,” Yao said. “That means you need a consistent lineup. A guy who is a starting center being on and off, on and off, I think that’s not good for a team. That’s why I think playing back-to-back for me and for teammates is very important.”

Yao is averaging 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in 21 minutes per game.

I think we shouldn't just bump his minutes like nothing happened. IMO we show slowly raise his minutes.

Nov 20-24 mins
December 1 or 2 more mins
Jan another min per game
Feb 1-2 more mins

then stay this way until the playoffs(if we make it :)

then give Yao 30-32 mins per game in playoffs.

i like it. slow and steady. and yao is right about the chemistry. its basically two different teams out there when yao is in and out and this team definitely needs more consistency.

If Yao is done, Rockets might as well just give up on this season and move Brooks, Martin, Battier, Jeffries and whoever else for Granger or Carmelo (w/ extension) or just a massive amount of high draft picks.

And then try and get another superstar in the lottery.

This season is a nightmare.

Seriously Yao's value would remain even if he gets injured for the next 5 seasons into retirement and continuing his injury trend because of the Chinese market. But Kevin Martin's with the 2nd largest contract value will dwindle like daryl morey's value will dwindle since he traded Landry for an injury prone 1 trick pony in Martin. He did well in the draft, but we overrate him in trades and signings. Signning brad miller and lowry to 3 and 4 years while AB not gettin extension which IMO him and Ariza made a lot of gamewinners for rockets last season. He also signed Ariza 5 years and then traded him for Lee. Lee isn't that good but he's only gettin paid 1+ million so it was a money cutting move.

Landry, honestly, is the PF equivalent of Martin. They're both only good on offense. Period. He is relatively more rounded than Martin, but was also redundant for us, and is having a bad season this year to boot.

Brad Miller, ... in the raw, was a bad signing. If you look at the absolute value of it, there's no question. Bad signing. If you look at it from an insurance viewpoint, he was a neutral signing. He can eat minutes for Yao to not have to play, his rebounding rate doesn't entirely suck, and if Yao goes down, we have a big.

You always overpay for insurance. Always.

Courtney Lee has not turned out, so far. I'm not sure why. He should be able to go for 44/37 with us, but... My guess is that he isn't playing many minutes with Yao... He did cut cost.

Isn't it funny how us Houston fans have gotten to where we like cost cutting moves? It results in a lesser product, but if you look at it as freeing up under-luxtax space, it's favorable. Strange coincidence?
