I don't agree either? why would we give up a 20+ PPG player for Haywood? We would be more likely to trade a combo of Budinger and Smith or something similar than do this trade, with a looming Lockout etc, I can't see it happening.

Remember how the Mavs thought that they had a chance to land Lebron with Dampier's contract?

You should follow that one up with a Jefferies for Dirk/Beaubois deal.

P.S. Cuban's a tool.

P.P.S. Like a Houston rival is going to help out a Dallas team.....RIGHT. I ain't from Texas and I already know that one. Good grief.

I guess you guys cant really read. The article is stating that the Rockets are internally discussing Haywood. The Mavs have a fondness for Martin. It even states that they have not had any contact on the matter (this guy is a big-time Mavs insider, so he'd find out fairly soon after there is some). He is saying that this COULD BE the foundation of a deal. Not Haywood for Martin straight up.

I don't know how the Rockets feel about Martin. But obviously you guys are going nowhere fast and you're going to be lapped by the Memphis', Clippers', Wovles of the world pretty soon. You may be better off trading for a guy who, when starting (thats the key word), is a solid 9 and 10 guy with 2 blocks. You then have the point gaurd, power forward and center locked down. You'd need to fill your 2 and 3.

I'd be willing i think to include Beaubois in this deal along with an expiring like Stevenson to makes salaries match. I think the Mavs would probably try to make it something like a Haywood and Butler swap for Martin and Brad Miller. You guys could also trade Yoa's expiring too in other deals to shore up the rest of the team.

So before you start with your lame ass "not" threads, actually think about whats the point in having Kevin Martin and his salary when your team will go nowhere with him when you don't even have a guy who can defend the basket when Martin's man inevitably goes by him.

And I recall reading recently that LeBron was interested but they knew Cleveland would not trade him like that so they didn't pursue it much beyond some contact with Cuban. So there actually was a chance. Nobody could have predicted the Miami thing would have hapened.

Link?

You notice how it's only Mavs' fans that thought that they had a "chance"? Get real, everybody knew that Dallas was on the bottom of Lebron's list. If Dampier's contract was so valuable, why did it only net you guys Tyson Chandler, a guy that everybody was afraid to touch?

You're missing the point. It wasn't that it had value, it just enabled us to match the sign and trade that Cleveland eventually did agree to with Miami. It made us a viable choice for Lebron if he wanted to come, nothing more. In retrospect I don't think anyone had a real shot at him except Miami.

And I don't think this rumor will turn into anything, but it has Mav boards buzzing.

And Damp's contract could've gotten us Al Jefferson but we chose Chandler.

That I agree with. It's just annoying seeing Mavs' fans acting like they were on the top of Lebron's list.

If you guys asked for Martin back in November I'm sure we would've all had different opinions.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/11/28/1 ... miami.html

also around the time there were other stories that i cant find (dont care to put too much effort into it) where Carter says they didnt think cleveland would do a S&T anyways. And no its not just MAvs fans who thought we had a chance. Go back and read free agency stories. A lot of basketball media types were considering the Mavs a favorite behind NY and Cleveland. Miami, in the end, came out of nowhere.

And they were holding Dampiers contract for a superstar. there were other deals to be made, but they were hoping to trade to trade for a toplevel guy. THey then were going to get Al Jefferson but didnt want to give up two number 1s. In the end, i think they panicked and went after Chandler but they wound up making a great deal. Something that Houston can learn from. ha

Really now? Favorites? Off the top of my head, the favorites for landing Lebron were Cleveland, Chicago, NY, and NJ. Nobody believed that Lebron would go to the Mavs. If you actually believe that Lebron had interest in any team other than the Heat then I don't know what to tell you.

Mavs' fan criticizing another team for panicking  ? You guys took a gamble and won - big whoop. I'm sure plenty of other teams would've picked Chandler up had he not failed his physical (ex. OKC).

jym85 wrote:You can hate on him for his defense especially if he's paired with Kidd and the fact he always injured but that's just what happens with guys who play the way he does unless you're just a freak of nature like Iverson.

But yeah Iggy who everyone loves for his "slashing" has made 64 of his 92 free throws this year in 20 games in 38 minutes

Martin has made 195 out of 215 in 25 games

And for comparison Dirk has made 125 out of 146

And those 195 are good for #1 in freethrows this year
Westbrook is #2 at 191
and only 5 guys have attempted more free throws

But yeah if he can be had for just Haywood + Stevenson + 1st rounder I think you have to do it.
I'd have to question it if Terry is involved. Martin isn't known for his 4th quarters. At least Terry has proven to be amazingly clutch in the regular season and I doubt we win all those close games each year without him (not saying Dirk being on the team doesn't help. it does haha)

First 2011, First 2013?

Why for Dallas?
Kevin Martin is a clear upgrade over Terry. He could be the other scorer we need to complimment Dirk.
Miller could help inside. His defense is poor, but he can score from everywhere.

Why for Houston?
With Ming out near the retirement, Rocket needs a C desperatly. Haywood is his man. Plus they get Dojo and one/two picks. Terry's contract is only $5mill guaranted in 2011.

Thoughts???

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1076349
From the dallas board. Are they delusional?

Not even close to being fair. Terry is 33 years old and cannot even score close to Kmart who is 6 years younger. Haywood is a good defender, but offensively he's a dud. DOJO who?? Mavs 1st 2011 2013 equate to very late first round picks.. This is an assessment even with my homer glasses off. Kmart has played his best basketball lately 40 pt and 34 pt games this week alone. From our standpoint your offers have been as ridiculous as Kmart for dirk. Haywood stevenson and a 1st for kmart? LOL hahaha. Maybe in 2k10 . Your first picks arent' worth much. Maybe if its a Sacramento King or Wizard first round lottery pick.

Breaking News: The Rockets didn't offer Martin for Gortat. Lol I have no idea why that was posted in the wiretap. Maybe tomorrow they'll put that the Lakers didn't offer Kobe for Francisco Garcia.

Return to Houston Rockets
