Beyond the fact his contract is waaaay too big,so assuming the Rockets had to take Curry,
I would do Martin for Fields and Randolph in a nano-second! (Assuming the Rockets could also find roster room.)
Fields is a studling now and will be a solid starter for a quality team for the next decade. Not All-Star material, just a really good all-around player. He makes smart decisions, rebounds, knows his shots-and makes them at a high %-plays D,runs and finishes. Imagine a Battier w/athleticism and an inclination to drive and score. He's exactly the type of player moneyball GMs are supposed to covet.
Randolph I like, knowing there are some serious potential issues with him.(Likes the nightlife a little too much, hasn't shown great maturity overall nor work on his game and his agent-or him-was talking way too much money for his next contract.)OTOH,he hasn't been coached by a quality big man coach and he plays w/passion and oozes raw talent.
To be honest,I'd do Martin for Fields and Curry, which is why it's good I'm watching games from a couch in LA and not the GM chair in Houston

If I could get Randolph as well, ooh aahhhh.
But NY ain't trading Fields so...

No.
You only got him for Carl Landry?
So what do you propose his value is? I am offering two young players and one that can be flipped for a draft pick, your not gettn a lottery pick for kevin martin.

I think NY would trade Fields for Martin. NY with Amare, Melo, and Martin as their big 3 would be sick.

Carl Landry apparently.
And I considered landry the most Valuable player on the Rockets when he was here. So that makes K-Mart, invaluable.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
no.
Martin's having the best season of his career, and the fact that he's not even getting All-Star consideration is very annoying. He has been the best Rocket this year.
Fields is nice, but a complimentary player, a role player. Martin is a legit 2nd option on a championship team, and I am not trading him unless I get a star or someone who could be one. And none of the Knicks's prospect are those, not even Randolph, who is massively overrated both as a player and a prospect.

lol...yeah cuz it's not like Kevin Martin, 2nd in the NBA in points per 48 minutes, isn't one of the best scorers in the league or anything. Not worth a lottery pick at all.

i cant believe all u martin haters. i can understand in november, but things have changed. he draining it from 3, 20ppg scorer, efficient as hell, perfect for rick's system. if we're trading him we need more than fields and mother **** curry.

I do not smoke marijuana; nor would I smoke it if it were decriminalized. However, for many reasons I do support the idea of decriminalization of marijuana...
Then I see a thread like this and realize that the film Reefer Madness was right!!!

Actually, no. We got him in an elaborate three-team deal involving a very large contract; some good young players; some expirings; some bad-deals-turned-expirings-one-year-later; draft picks; and draft pick protections.
Houston isn't looking to "flip" Kevin Martin for a draft pick. I don't know why you'd say something like that.

Joeyyowee,
If the Knicks were to trade for Martin they wouldn't have either the trade pieces or the cap room to sign Carmelo. But I do agree Martin would thrive in a D'Antoni offense,so long as Felton would give him the ball.
As for my reasons for agreeing to a theoretical deal, they are as follows.
First,I get Martin is a reliable 20+ppg scorer and those are getting rarer in the NBA and that he is a great fit in an Adelman offense. But...
We don't know if Adelman's coming back. Having a player who's a perfect fit for one system when we don't know if that is the system going forward is not the greatest plan for the future.
$11.5mil+. Re-signing Anthony and Fields' minimum salary would save millions of dollars. That's money that could go to a FA,re-signing Yao,Brooks,Battier, etc. Having the extra financial flexibility on a likely smaller cap would be invaluable. Basically the Rockets can have 3 players for what Martin will earn.
I'm assuming(dangerous I know)that Williams can be a 17-18ppg scorer. Add Fields' 12-14ppg and there's not much difference from Martin/Battiers 32ppg.(Yes I am also assuming Fields will score more than his 10.5 as a rookie.) Wiiliams,Fields offers better passing, defense and rebounding. If the team re-signs Battier the Rockets will have 5 fairly good defenders on the perimeter in Lowry,Shane,Lee,Fields,Williams. Add shot-blocking help from Randolph and Hill and the Rockets have the potential to be an excellent defensive team.
The Rockets could team active, energetic young bigs in Randolph,Hill and Patterson w/solid vet bigs in Scola,Miller and hopefully Yao. The team could have two solid small units in Lowry,Fields,Williams and Brooks,Lee,Battier w/Hayes,Ish and a draft pick at the end of the bench.
A starting unit of Lowry,Fields,Williams,Scola and Hill/Randolph can get out and run w/anybody while still being able to play D.(Of course others may prefer Brooks, but it's my fantasy,so there! Besides I really doubt the Rockets in reality will keep both.If I'm right, move Ish up to second unit.)
Bud is not listed because I assume the NY trade would be Bud,Martin for Fields,Randolph,Curry, cash and the Sac 2012 Second.(And Jeffries would be dumped on Cavs w/a lottery protected 2011 First going along as that's what Cavs are asking for in exchange for part of their huge TPE.)

Wizards are in town tomorrow. They just traded for Rashard so Andray Blatche might be available.
Kevin Martin and Ish Smith for Blatche and Yi
I would really prefer JaVale McGee but would settle for Blatche (to play center not pf)
A Wall-Martin (Wal-Mart) backcourt could be the best in the NBA.

Yawn. Quality over quantity. I'd much rather have Martin at $11.5 million scoring 23 PPG than a bunch of role players like Randolph and Fields. Scoring machines like Kevin don't grow on trees, mediocre prospects are a dime a dozen.
It's also a dangerous assumption that Fields will increase his scoring by a significant margin. There have been plenty of rookies who come out with a good opening season, then fail to improve their numbers and next thing you know they're a journeyman player trying to find a job. Not saying this will happen necessarily, but it's definitely possible.

I would rather see Martin on the Knicks than Melo. I'm a player fan not a team fan so I basically want to see my favorite players on the best team possible. I'd also like to see my favorite players play on a local team. That has never happened to me so it would be interesting for me to root for the home team for a change.

I would do Martin for Randolph and Gallo/Fields/Chandler and Azubuike, without hesitation, just gotta make room.
trade Martin now while his value is high and he isnt hurt...
