OT: The Carmelo Trade

Post#1 » by YoungMoney23 » Mon Jan 10, 2011 10:31 am

Since we aren't going to land Carmelo and it's clear hes got one foot out the door. Does anyone else think he will get a Lebron-like reception when he returns to Denver? Just curious as to everyone's thoughts on this and its impact on the eastern conference. Also do you guys think he will bolt to New York also?

Granted he's doing it better than what Lebron did but there are similarities... He's taken the easy way out and basically told the rest of the guys that they stink and taking the easy way out by trying to force a trade to new york.

Well ... first of all it'd be a good trade for the Rockets, since Denver would be off a lot worse and unlikely to make the playoffs, which would open up another playoffs spot. Secondly Carmelo would get traded to the East and most importantly not the Knicks. Good job by Melo's greedy agent Leon Rose .

As for if Carmelo would get booed in Denver, sure he would. I'm not even sure how that's a question. Any franchise player that leaves their team will get booed.

Will he bolt to NY in the offseason after being traded to NJ? I don't think so. It's just too much money to pass on, but that's just my opinion, though you don't have to be a certified body language reader to see he'd rather be traded to NY.

Turns out Denver fans are already booing Carmelo. I don't blame them.

How in the world are Carmelo's actions better than what Lebron did?

I don't understand how Melo's agent seems to have more say about what goes down than Melo does. Isn't the final decision going to be on Melo?

ESPN claims the trade is going to happen soon... i don't see how. first, for the trade to happen, melo would have to agree to a 3 year extension because I know New Jersey is not stupid enough to rent melo for one season plus acquire all those bad contracts right? Second, its to obvious Melo does not want to sign a contract with New Jersey. He would be worst off in New Jersey than he was with Denver. and Finally everybody knows he wants to be in New York. That's where it all comes down to. He wants to be traded to new york and new york only. He will be a free agent and jet to new york.

He hasnt created this saga that drags out over multiple seasons of whether he's going to stay or not. He told them either trade me or improve the team. Not to mention he didn't go on some stupid hour long tv show to get his decision across.

First of all, LeBron didn't create free agency. Secondly, he played out his contract like he was supposed to do, then waited until he was a free agent before he decided he wanted to go to another team. Whereas Carmelo is showing a complete lack of professionalism with this public debacle. The anticipation of LeBron's free agency was inevitable, not to mention created by the media. Melo created this drama.

VC#15 wrote:He told them either trade me or improve the team.

Actually, the only thing I've heard him say is that he hasn't said anything. Instead he allows all of these "insider sources" speak for him. Why won't he just come out and squash of these rumors by officially stating that he has not and will not address his contract until the season is over, and any other "statement" did not come from him? That way he could deal with the situation internally without being such a public nuisance. I don't blame Nuggets fans for booing him.

I would be pissed if he were a Rocket and was acting like this. I would much rather him wait until he's a free agent then state that he's going to sign with another team on national TV, than let his entire fan base know he wants to move on while he still collects a check. So unprofessional.

VC#15 wrote:Not to mention he didn't go on some stupid hour long tv show to get his decision across.

Once again, at least LeBron waited until he was a free agent to announce his decision. Melo is showing a complete lack of respect by expressing his will to leave while still under a contract.

I personally think Melo is handling the situation perfectly. He told the Nuggets organization how he feels and he hasn't said anything directly to the media. What more could you ask of him? Do you want him to ignore Masai Ujiri when he asks him what he intends to do?

Yeah.. Melo isn't really causing any drama, the media is.

He simply said he doesnt want to sign a extension and plans on leaving. The organization let it all out (or maybe his agents, but still.)

Looks like the is deal is far from done.

This whole thing is messed up. The Rockets want Melo, but would rather have him traded to NJ than NY.
The package the Rockets are offering might not be good enough, possibly partly due the fact they've traded their 2012 first to NJ. The Nets seem to have enough/the right pieces, yet NJ is unwilling to take on Harrington, which is why the Nuggets apparently now are threatening the Nets to trade Melo to NY, even though they aren't very interested in what the Knicks are offering.

It all must be part of Morey's masterplan. :wizard:

this is getting weird
first thought morey is trying to help new jersey by giving them a first round pick in 2012
new jersey wants favors and future pick(s)
now houston is back talking to denver about acquiring melo
one advantage we have is ariza's trade exception (good enough to take harrington's contract)
but since we are over the cap, his salary actually means over 10m to alexander
to save denver tons of money (only if melo signed the extension) we can offer yao (insurance will cover 8m), ariza's trade exception, 2012 new york pick , and one of our young player (hopefully not patterson)

Return to Houston Rockets
