Rumor: Houston and Minny talking trade for Flynn

Post#1 » by Kal El » Thu Feb 24, 2011 5:15 pm

Brooks or Jeffries could be involved...

for jeffries, why not... we bring a decent back up point guard that still has potential. a back up point guard that will eventually replace brooks either now or at the end of the season. Flynn needs a new scenery...

as for brooks i would hope we could make a better trade involving him... i know his value is low but atleast AB has proven to be better than Flynn so far...

it's alright trade thread (rumor) all over the place
don't like to see duplicate thread when everyone is talking the same stuff in another thread
we are desperate for a change
i hope morey don't just trade because we need to make a change
if trade is official then you can open a new thread :D

they've both missed a lot of games this year with injury
so let's compare their stats from last season when brooks played 82 games and flynn played 81

Scoring: Brooks 19.6ppg > Flynn 13.5ppg
FG perc: Brooks 43.5% > Flynn 41.7%
3pt Perc: Brooks 39.8% > Flynn 35.8%
FT perc: Brooks 82.2% < Flynn 82.9%
Assists: Brooks 5.3apg > Flynn 4.4apg
T-overs: Brooks 2.8tpg > Flynn 2.9tpg
Steals: Brooks 0.8spg < Flynn 1.0spg
Rebounds: Brooks 2.6rpg > Flynn 2.4rpg

pretty comparable considering it was Flynn's rookie season and he had worse teammates to pass to.

Flynn DOB: Feb 6, 1989 (just turned 22 this month)
Brooks DOB: Jan 14, 1985 (turned 26 last month)
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

I guess avoiding Aaron's free agency?
Maybe the front office took the walkout more seriously than they let on too.

get him with two more years on his rookie deal, let him develop and then make a decision - rather than having to give brooks a big contract next offseason.

plus, if the deal involves jeffries - you save over 8 mil $ - and i'm being carefull with that estimation - because of the tax theshold.

i remember watching flynn in the summer league before his rookie season. he looked amazing. decent rookie season and a bit of a sophomore slump due to injuries. the guy is still young and and he has a lot of upside. i don't know maybe getting flynn might be a better move than i have originally thought...

One idea I keep coming back to as I'm analyzing is Flynn / Pekovic for Brooks / Jeffries

Minnesota takes arguably the best player in the deal along with offseason salary relief. Houston takes a guy with a bunch of potential, and a big man they coveted this offseason. Houston also saves ~$1.5 million immediately, cutting their luxury tax almost in half.

I like it quite a bit more than the other stuff I've seen.

If I see another Lee for Miami 1st proposal I may go on a rampage.
