Battier/Brooks Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by Optimism Prime » Thu Feb 24, 2011 8:16 pm

Going to miss these guys.

Battier was my favorite Rocket. Smartest guy in the league; would love to see him back in Houston roaming the sidelines someday.

Brooks... maybe Phoenix can get him healthy. And back to explosive. He and Nash on the court at the same time could be crazy...

:o Lowry made Brooks redundant. So I can understand trading him. Battier makes no sense (IMO) Though. We just got worse defensively. I guess we can hope that Battier re-signs with us in the offseason. I am not peeved on this trade Like I was with Mandry, but it comes pretty damn close. I hate that the only loyalty in this league, is shown by the fans only. Like Olajuwon, Battier should have retired a Rocket. maybe he will be back, (Though I doubt it.) I would have much rather seen Jeffries and Hill moved along. I guess this makes way for Williams to get more court time, as well as Budinger. Good luck Shane.

Brooks, thanks for your part in the 22 game win streak, thanks for your play against the Lakers. Other than that, have a nice career.

He'd have to be, considering we have a mod named TMac

I was overjoyed when we got Battier, and while I'm not happy that he's gone (for now, at least), I am happy that we got something for him, rather than letting him rot into oblivion or sign with someone else. I do suspect that he'll get more money as an FA than he'd have value for us any time in the near future.

AB was decent for us prior to 1. his scoring average increasing last year 2. Lowry getting paid 3. his injury. He and AB made a good 1/2 punch at PG with Yao/Scola in the middle, but he isn't nearly as effective without Yao. In Dragic, we got a backup point guard, who doesn't look to be quite as good as Brooks, but who we also don't have pressure to overpay or let walk this summer.

Brooks will be missed for his red bow tie, Battier for being generally one of the most awesome guys to grace the NBA this decade.

The saddest part is that it seems that I will not get to smash a Journey soundtrack at karaoke with Battier on lead vocals anytime soon now.

Admit it, you know that'd be a lifetime worth of kicking ass bottled into 5 minutes.

if you truly love battier you should hope he sign with a title contender in the off-season
he is always welcome to re-sign with us when he thinks it will be his last year

Sorry, but I want Optimism retired as moderator for lumping Shane in with that malcontent. I didn't hate Brooks, but Shane Battier has been my favorite Rocket for several years now. When I heard we were trading Rudy Gay for Battier I was pissed beyond belief. I spent the rest of my day unhappy. It's a testament to how awesome he is that Shane could change my mind. The simple fact that putting him onto any of the league's elite scorers gave you a sense of calm was as big a selling point as any.

My favorite Shane Battier moment was watching him hold Kobe to 11-33 shooting as the Rockets won their 22nd game in a row and took first place in the Western Conference. That injury to Yao possibly cost us a title that year.

Here's hoping Shane winds up in Miami, Chicago, LA, SA, or some other contender. If he went to Utah I might cheer for the Jazz to get a ring. Now excuse me while I go gargle with bleach and tell my boss I'm going home.

best Shane moment

Dec 2010 vs Lakers

Scoring 11 points in in the last 3 minutes of the game

As impressive as T-Mac's 13 pts in 35 seconds

"Shane! Come Back Shane!" (as our future head coach)
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Can't really NOT appreciate a guy like Battier with his tenure here. Sure there were times I'd wish he looked to score more, but in general, the guy gave 100%, was a very good perimeter defender, a reliable outside shooter, and a leader both off and on the court. I definitely wish him the best in Memphis, and hope they can make the playoffs.
