It's just RealGM making up stories like they always do.

They have no clue whether Bill Simmons was speculating or not, yet make it a wiretap story and present it like a fact.

It's not. No way we would've done that deal. Baron's 12-13 ETO is the deal breaker.

Also, do you really think Donald Sterling would have traded for a player he's going have to pay $18mil over three years if he instead could have traded for an expiring player, he'd only have to pay $3mil? No way.

Sounds like Morey and Simmons were splitting a Zima during a break at the Sloan Conference when Morey said "we offered them Yao's contract for BDiddy and a 1st, but they didn't take it".

Hundreds of trades get floated every day in the NBA. "How 'bout your #2 guy for our #3 guy and a pick to be named??" Nobody but David Khan and Isiah Thomas takes that seriously. But Simmons, as much as I enjoy his writing, has an ego like everybody else. He wanted to be the guy with the inside scoop. So he Tweeted it...like a responsible journalist.

Makes no sense for the Clips, though. That's the part getting (conveniently) left out. If they shipped BDiddy and a pick for Yao, who were they going to start at the point? Maurice Williams?

Sorry Ribalding, but it makes no sense for the Rockets, not the Clippers.

You don't take on a a guy like Baron Davis, who's over the hill and owed nearly $30mil over two years for a mid-lottery draft pick (currently #8) in a weak draft, when it also eliminates your chance a marquee free agent in 2012.
I remember a few GM's were quoted saying it was a very steep price for Cleveland to pay, though I think that you can't really compare the Cavs to any other team, since they'll be irrelavent for the next five years anyways and capspace isn't as important to them, since Cleveland is arguably a bottom five destination for free agents.
As for the the Clippers, Mo Williams might be good fit, but it's not like he gets them anywhere and they also have Eric Bledsoe at PG, who fits their current core much better. You're crazy if you think the Clippers woud actually have prefered the Cavs deal. Well ... maybe they would have, it's the Clippers afterall... but then again I can't see Donald Sterling passing up an opportunity to save money.

I could see Morey telling Simmons that we tried to trade Yao for a high pick and would have taken on money to do so, which then lead to that tweet, but I'm sure that a Baron Davis + 1st for Yao deal was never on the table.
