Pat the best offensive player in this draft?

Post#1 » by rdehonney » Thu Mar 17, 2011 3:47 am

David Thorpe from espn did his biggest rookie surprises, pat came in @ #3. While obviously I don't agree with him comparing him to blake, especially since later on he says that blake is already an all-star and could be an mvp it's nice to know that pat is being viewed this way around the league. I do think that he is the best player suited for the pick and roll and I could see him becoming something like a david west type of player in the future. Needless to say morey DID IT AGAIN. Heres what he said:

Patrick Patterson might be the best jump shooter in this class. In fact, he might be the best offensive rookie this season. Guys like John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Blake Griffin will likely end up being better offensive players, but Patterson has been terrific. He's made over 69 percent of his inside shots and over 55 percent from 16 to 23 feet. Nobody puts up numbers like those. Nobody.
He's also shown the ability to score over people with athleticism, good hands and even the beginnings of some "Scolas" (scoops or half-hooks coming off fakes). Arriving to the NBA with the reputation of someone who knew how to play a role, he might end up being a top-three scorer for a good team early in his career.

David West was exactly who I compared him to after the draft. If Pat could get a reliable back to the basket game, he would darn near be unstoppable on the offensive side. He's been getting better on defense and rebounding, so in 2-3 years, he's going to be poised to take the starting PF spot.

You can hate on DM all you want (Max), but the proof is in the putting. The man knows how to pick 'em.

2007 - Brooks and Landry (both A+)
2008 - Batum -> Greene -> Artest
2009 - Budinger (A+), Taylor (C), Llull (Inc.)
2010 - Patterson (A)
2011 - Jimmer???
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

If we're going to take a scoring PG, give me Kemba Walker.

That man has hit more shots in winning time than you can shake a stick at!

Stick with Lowry and try and find that diamond in the ruff center.

Well it wasn't an endorsement of the Rockets taking Jimmer but I can see Morey doing it.
I think Lowry and Dragic is good enough at PG and hopefully we can get Ish Smith back too.

You can have your wildcat. Not Terrence Jones though. Enes Kanter all the way.

I want to draft Jimmers.

Especially if we have the pick right ahead of Utah.

I don't care about his playing ability. I want to do it for the laughs (at the anguished expense of our friends in Utah who see him as the second coming...well, third coming).

Morrison drafted third. First yr ,23 starts, second yr out injured. Third yr traded,5 starts in 44 games, traded to Lakers, plays 44 minutes in 8 games.Fourth yr cheers on and gets a ring while playing 241 minutes in 31 games. Fifth yr,out of League.
Some guy drafted Second by Memphis. First yr,13 starts. Second yr,no starts, traded. Just saying...

Did this unknown person get injured? If Morrison is not the biggest then he is surely in the top 5.

Some guy = Hasheem Thabeet
His rookie season wasn't a total bust
He was only one of 3 rookies to be in the top 50 in blocks
#28 Hasheem Thabeet = 68 games, 89 blocks = 1.31 blocks per game (13 minutes played per game)
#27 Serge Ibaka = 73 games, 97 blocks = 1.33 blocks per game (18 minutes played per game)
#31 Taj Gibson = 82 games, 104 blocks = 1.27 blocks per game (27 minutes played per game)

#138 Jordan Hill = 47 games, 21 blocks = 0.45 blocks per game (13 minutes played per game)

Am I crazy for thinking that Patterson could and should be the starter next season. He is almost as good as Scola and I sure he will be with a offseason of training and watching game tape of where he can improve like getting to the line.

scola is better post player
patterson is better defender
patterson still pretty bad in the post
most of his pts are from offensive rebound catch&shoot from 15-18ft
