Chance at Playoffs?

Post#1 » by Meatcookie » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:55 pm

6. Portland (+4)
7. New Orleans (+3)
8. Memphis (+2)
9. Houston ( 0)

All teams have 8 games remaining. Portland, Memphis and Houston have 3 away games, and New Orleans have only 2.

Portland
@NO, OKC, Dal, GS, @Utah, LAL, Mem, @GS

New Orleans
Port, Mem, Ind, Hou, Phx, @Mem, Utah, @Dal

Memphis
GS, @NO, Minn, LAC, Sac, NO, @Port, @LAC

Houston
@Phi, SA, Atl, Sac, @NO, LAC, Dal, @Minn

I know the Rockets have a chance, but realistically... is it a good chance? Port, NO, & Mem all have to play each other so there will be some losses for at least 2 teams. If Houston beats NO then we gain 1 game on them... what about the other games? I think we have the tie breaker over Memphis, do we over NO or Portland?

Only hope is NOLA, even though they own the tie-breaker.

That's still a long shot. Looks like we can start looking at who to take with the #14 pick...again.

We don't have the tie-breaker over Portland (1W 2L record) and we're 1W 2L against New Orleans with one game remaining. Even if we win that last game against NO, they will own the tie-breaker because our divisional record is standing at only 4W 9L (worst in the Southwest Division).

it's going to be tight
believe we have the tie-break against memphis but not new orleans/portland
(imo portland is in)
we have a good chance to go 7-1 (losing to dallas)
need memphis to go 5-3
need new orleans to go 4-4

Same thing I was thinking. About 10 games ago when I looked @ memphis schedule I figured w/ the combination of that, how well we were playing and the loss of rudy we would have a really good chance. But Memphis kept on F***** winning! When they beat sa, okc, and dallas a couple of weekends ago I knew they were for real. SMH and we're playing so well, I'd rather us win of course but it's not exactly a bad thing for us to be in the lottery again especially since we're going to get bounced out of the 1st rd. anyway.

The Rockets can't dick around at this point. Going out and screwing around with Philly like they did last time is going to cost them a playoff spot. Hopefully the Spurs keep resting their big guns and hopefully Dallas' seed is set by the time they come down here so they'll be resting their big guns. If that happens and the team doesn't play stupid or some other team doesn't go crazy, the Rockets could go 8-0 and I can't see them not getting into the playoffs if that happens.

That said, this is a Houston team that doesn't have Hakeem. So getting blown out by Sacramento might just come out of nowhere.

Only if Memphis or NOLA loses games. And rockets have to go hard every single game. Wont be easy but there's still a little bit of hope.

our best bet is just to win out the rest of the season. it doesn't look like memphis or new orleans are planning on losing, they have been playing great down the stretch. we can't control that. if we go 47-35 and still miss the playoffs, it would just be another tough season in the wild wild west.

but if we miss the playoffs don't fret. we have played great since the all star break. in the off season, 2 first round picks and $45mil in contracts. and we also have all of 2012 to look forward to and the 2012 off season.

Ten years ago...

2000-2001 season: Rockets finished 45-37, finished 5th in the division and missed the playoffs.
(this used to be a record for most wins while missing the playoffs until GSW in 2008 had 48 wins)

It was Hakeem Olajuwon's final season as a Rocket (and Matt Bullard's too)

Steve Francis led the team with 19.9ppg with Mobley 2nd at 19.5ppg

Our rookies were the late Jason Collier and Dan Langhi.

Wonder if history will repeat itself with 45 wins and missing the playoffs.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming
