i couldn't find a thread about this, but truth be told i didn't look that hard sorry if mods wana lock it then go ahead

i just took my last final and now i'm done with austin...i'm FINALLY moving back to houston, but i have to live with my parents until i can find a nice apartment, loft or condo to live in and i would prefer down town

does any one know the best places to look?...i've looked online, but i have had HORRIBLE luck apartment hunting online in the past so i would prefer insight from someone not just trying to sell me the place

1-3 bedrooms(i have roommates i could live with but i would prefer alone) and i have an english bulldog so dog friendly...preferred cost $1,500 to $4,000 per month...but i will go over for a nice place

any insight or links to trustworthy websites would be appreciated

Not if he does have $4000 to spend then it would be easy. He should really look into buying a house

Wasting your money on an apartment. Go for the house, then you can add a few roommates if you want and put that toward the mortgage or repairs or upgrades or a pool or whatever.

A search by zip code on har.com works wonders. Buy or lease, but mostly buy. You can narrow by size, location, cost, etc., etc. Downtown is 77002. I would also look in 77007, 77008, 77019, 77006, etc. Check out a zip code map.

But if you have that kind of budget, you SERIOUSLY need o be looking at purchases instead of leasing. Now's the time for bargains.

Nah. $1250 will lease a nice 1 bedroom loft. And $225,000 will buy ~1500 sq. feet if you take your time looking. More than that if you're not right in the middle of downtown.

If you can afford those prices move to one park place. I have a place over on west 24th, and I don't pay nearly those prices, although I couldn't afford to shell out 4 g's month. This guy must have studied petroleum engineering or pharmacy, or he has very generous parents.

i wish 225k can buy me a 1500 sq ft condo in austin downtown
company is moving to downtown (6th street) next summer
need to find a place closer
i don't want to stuck in traffic for 60 min (round trip) a day just to go to work
paying more than $1000/month for a place to live is too much
might as well use that for house payment

i probably should have specified(i had already started my post finals celebration) that anything over $2,000 a month and i will definitely have to have at least one of my friends live with me...i wish i had that kind of money by myself haha

If that's the budget you're looking at then you should be looking to buy. If you do just want to rent then I'd suggest not moving to Downtown, but Midtown or the Medical Center area. Both areas are in advanced stages of gentrification with better value and (in my opinion) better night life.

Houston was just named by Standard & Poors as the #1 city in the world for cost of living. You should be just fine here, and welcome home!
