What do you need to see from Terrance Williams next season?

Just like the Hasheem Thabeet thread: what do you need to see from Terrance Williams this season to consider it a success?

I'm kind of looking for a ceiling & floor here. What does he need to do to be a success in your eyes, and what would be the point that you'd be ready to cut your ties and give up on him?

The guy has incredible athletic ability, but he doesn't seem...focused on becoming a valuable NBA player.

At least T-Will wants to be on the court, not so sure Thabeet does.

Best case scenario: replaces Budinger in the starting lineup
Worst case scenario: RGV Vipers MVP

he's a young athletic wing who can do a bit of everything.

he needs good 1 on1 moves, make his own shot. with rick gone we're gonna need more iso plays, and he has the potential to be our best iso player.

fast break/run n gun points. we need to get better at this and he's a good start. run the open floor and get us some easy buckets

has to be an effective slasher. he has size, speed, athleticism, that combo is great for slashing. there should be some teams where most of his points come from attacking the basket

i dont think he can ever play regular pg minutes, but since he can pass he needs to help make some plays. lowry probably wont avg more than 8apg, and rick adelman's PERFECT system is gone. setting up some shots for martin or passing to the post would help a lot.

and he can be a good perimiter defender if he works at it. maybe a rim protector would make him feel better about defense so that he actually starts playing.

i definitely wanna keep him to see what can actually do. he should get 15-20mpg with rick gone.

Willingness to learn. No "me-first" attitude. Guy has all the talent in the world, but he needs to realize he's got a lot to prove here before we can trust him.

Stats-wise... I don't care that much. Think he's got potential to be 12-4-4 at minimum, but that's only if he earns himself some playing time. If he keeps thinking that he's the most important player on the Rockets... bury him on the bench. If he wants to prove himself, we've got a dynamic wing scorer/playmaker.

I just need to be able to see someone that can legitimately create their own shot. It doesn't even need to be TWill...

I think that might be a bit much. 15 tweets per game day seems more reasonable

In short, I would like to see him become our poor man's LeBron James. By poor man's Lebron James I'm not expecting him to be an all-star or anything, but I would like him to be a point-forward, slasher, big time defender, grab rebounds.... basically everything LeBron does, just on a smaller scale. Ooh how about this, Andre Iguodala! Yeah, that's more like it.

So a poor man's Andre Iguodala who is a poor man's LeBron James?

Sounds pretty impoverished.

what do i need to see from t will to consider it a successful season enough to want to keep him?

1. defense. he said he wanted to be a good defender in this league. i want to see it. before anything else, i want to see a good solid defender. i want to see a glue guy, the go to guy i want guarding the other teams perimeter scorer even it\f t will is still coming off the bench. that would be the worst case scenario for me to want to keep him in houston. anything else and he's expendable.

2. best case scenario i guess skys the limit. but realistically if he can be an iggy type player defensively first and then offensively, then t will will surely be a fan favorite in houston. its up for him to work hard and improve his game and his attitude.

realistically the chances of any of it happening imo is slim to none. i doubt be breaks into the rotation and gain consistent minutes. he will probably be packaged if a trade happens or released in the middle of the season. he's just wasted potential.

I predict he will get some pine, play well and then get traded for a more stable piece.

For it to be a success? He'd have to become the starter and provide a two way force that can play-make, and be relied on to defend the opposing team's best player. As the roster is currently constructed, his only competition at SF is Budinger -- so I think to expect a player of William's talent to be a starter isn't too far fetched. But agree with everyone else, he needs to show that in his attitude first, "team first," before "me first."

Our starting SF spot is wide open. Any of him, Budinger or even Morris (assuming he can play at the position, which I doubt) can take the spot. If Williams can't beat out the latter two, yes he should be traded. Unless we get a quality SF in return, I think only one of Budinger or Williams will be traded eventually. I think Williams has a starter's potential in him. Unfortunately, fairly or unfairly, he was also in Adelman's doghouse the longest. I think the team should give him more opportunities to showcase his abilities.

I'd love T.Will on the Bobcats. We have a bit of hole at the SF position right now that I think T.Will could slide into (playing behind Maggette to start and then eventually taking over). Coach Silas is great with young players who need some direction and I think that being on a team that has MJ as the owner would do wonders for T.Will's focus.

Problem is - what could we present in a trade for him that might interest the Rockets?

I don't know what kind of reply you were hoping for. Maybe you were thinking we'd want a TPE and a second round pick, or some marginal talent at SF on a bad contract. What would you give up?

I saw your assessment of our team as being "a mess" and the "real losers of the draft." Two of the guys we broght in are going to be looked at at different positions, and the fact that we have talent (not just depth, but actual talent) at two positions just screams that the Rockets will be active in the trade market this off-season...however long it may last.

We drafted at 14 & 20. There were not that many players in this draft who are NBA-ready right now, so drafting BPA and looking at trades to improve the team was the smart thing to do. Good thing for us is that now we're in a position to move guys like Scola, Martin, Dragic, Hill, Lee, Patterson (please god...no), Morris or WIlliams without being left weak at those positions. It also means that we don't have to make a trade just to make a trade.

So all that said, what would your team offer for Williams? We aren't looking for the farm...just a deal that makes sense.
