After reading that article on Biyombo, it got me wondering something. We all love Chuck because he was an underdog the fought his way to relevancy. But what if he had been a number 7 pick (or whatever) the year he came out? Would you be satisfied with his play?

Edit: And if you want to go the extra mile, based on the play this far into their careers, where do you think the players on our roster should have been drafted? Keep in mind the year they were drafted and who was in the draft with them.

Not one bit. Him getting a couple of mil for what he does is fair compensation.

Clarence Weatherspoon was the 9th overall pick in the very deep and talented 1992 draft.
he was 6'6 like Chuck is

Weatherspoon's college stats were 18ppg and 11 rpg in the weak Metro conference
Hayes's college stats were half that at 9ppg and 7rpg but he played in the SEC

You know, after looking at the 2005 draft, I can't find 10 names that I would hands down take over Chuck (in hindsight of course). I think his production thus far vs the other names in that draft would definitely warrant a top 10 selection.

But see that's what I mean. You could make a case for someone like Andray, but its not hands down. With all things considered, would you be upset right now if the Rockets selected Chuck at number 10 with Andray still on the board?

Cmon. No way I take Blatche over Chuck.

Blatche is very talent, but his basketball IQ is ridiculous low and he couldn't care less about winning basketball games.
Saying you'd take Blatche "assuming he's motivated" is like saying Chuck would be the best center if he magically grew into a 7 footer. Guess what, it's not gonna happen.

After salary considerations, and prior to the last year or two, I'd have taken him over Bogut.
On basis of "he's an infinitely more awesome guy", I'd have taken him over Bynum, who seems possessed of rather exceptional douchitude.

Ironically, if Chuck had been a top 10, he might easily have been out of the league by now, as he never would have been given as much time as he was to develop an offensive game, and would have cost 2-3 times more than he does.

2007-2009 Chuck: Good Rebounding + great on-man defense + charges
2009-2011 Chuck: Good Rebounding + great on-man defense + charges + finally can score on layups and some viable post moves

Blatche maybe not with the attitude issues, and I suppose you can argue that Felton's numbers were inflated playing under D'Antoni. Granger, Ellis, and Bogut though, you've got to be kidding.

If I was in position to get a Top 10 Lottery Pick, my team would probably be rebuilding after an unsuccessful season. I would not waste my pick on a win-now guy like Chuck with a limited ceiling, so yes, if I was rebuilding I would be sort of pissed if Andray was still on the board.
