I wanted to move on without him, but it's real sad it's came down to this for Yao. :(

I think we all kinda knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but it's still pretty sad.

It's probably for the best though.
Whatever the future may hold for him, I think we all wish him nothing but the best.

Yao not only was a great player, but even more importantly a great guy.

Farewell big fella. :(

I don't feel bad for Yao at all. He still has his health (retiring while he's just at a non-functional NBA level, rather than a non-functional level for life). He still has millions of dollars. He owns his own team. He owns several restaurants. He has a good family structure.

As for us...

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've said for 4 years that we'll never win if we're built around Yao, not even from an injuries standpoint, but from a fact that's he's not good enough to be the top guy. As has been pointed out many times recently, if he's so much as on the team we have to be built around him because of his limitations. Therefore he needs to be off the team. Since he's been such a money syringe, there was no way that was happening while he was still playing. Therefore he needs to be not playing.

I appreciate Yao, he's a good guy, he's striven mightily for the team and played his heart out for us, he's been entertaining, it's been great to watch him grow as a player, but... I really don't know how this could have ended any other way. Either he bows out early due to injury, or slowly fades helplessly into the background. This was the merciful option, for both him and us.

Very sad, but like x said we all kind of expected it.

Looking forward to Yao joining the Rockets front office!

Hey ive been out of the nba circles for many years now from all my travelling. I stopped watching about the same time you guys got T-Mac and Yao. How many titles did the T-Mac/Yao Dynasty end up with? I remember hearing it was supposed to be better than Shaq/Kobe

This "headline" is like that old "News Of The Future" sketch on Laugh-In. You anticipated the headline so long that when it finally happens, you sort of think 'wow, was that this year?'.

Rather like "Paris Hilton First To Drown in AIDS" or "Santorum Admits ManLove", I'm at a loss. I totally thought this had already been decided.

Did you notice he kept changing his Twitter profile pic? Sure he was changing it back and forth between himself and Yao's pic. But there is something in Tracy that still compels him to make the story about himself. "Hey everybody, lookit what I did! Mommomomomomomom! Look how neato!!!"

Maybe Tracy, for all his gifts and good intentions, is a 5 year old who just figured out how to jump his bike off a curb...on his little brother's birthday.

**EDIT: YES. There must be somethin to this theory. Look, Tracy's already got us talking about HIM.

Oh s**t. Wait a second. I just discovered the Illuminati. Tracy McGrady is.....Jerome Solomon.

was hoping if there's half a season he would be able to play in january. he will be missed. i hope he gets a job in the rockets office staff or training or something.

i'm not big on okafor. i dont think he can defend the rim by himself. i also think we can get something better trading hill and hasheem.

Say what you will, but this is terrible. Yao was basically the only guy on the Rockets who, when healthy, could arguably the best player on the court against most NBA teams.

SAD. I loved watching Yao play.

Question:

What is this going to do to us financially. Yao was a huge cash draw. I went to games some games just to sit close to where he was, even in street clothes. We better start winning or the Rox could be in trouble.

I believe He has as many rings as Lebron James, but I could be mistaken on that.

Sorry to see Yao go, but it is time to move on. I am kind of reminded of the story of Old Yella.

Well, except Yella takes himself out and shoots himself.

And Yella isn't a 7'6" Chinese Basketballer.

You get my point.
