Are you guys going after Nene?

Post#1 » by Mylie10 » Mon Jul 11, 2011 3:53 pm

Now that Yao has officially announced his retirement, has there been any talk of signing Nene?

Since the guy is from Brazil, and he really wants to choose where he goes next, it sure seems like the perfect fit for both him and the Rockets. He and Scola make a nice combo.

I'm a Warriors fan and we'd like to grab him, but it's so unlikely....Just wondering if you guys had heard anything about him going to Houston.

i haven't heard anything, but morey is looking for centers.

he and scola make a good combo, but not a championship combo. nene needs help defending the paint. so there has to be either a defensive c or pf starting. if they keep most of adelman's system, he'd be a great fit since he's a good passing big and can hit jumpers.

we definitely should explore our options for a starting center.

And Nene is one of the biggest BBGs in the NBA. If HE needs help defending the paint, then maybe we were a bit off all those years in our requests to get Yao an athletic shotblocking PF, neh? :)

yao did defend the paint by himself, he gangsta like that. nene, even tho he's black, aint as much a gangsta as yao. so between the two of them, yakuza > bloods , in my humble and honest opinion.

If Yao did, then why was it a running gag / serious trade proposition for years that we needed an athletic shot blocking power forward? :)

Nene is a poor shotblocker for a BBG

Nene had 73 blocks in 75 games last year
Scola had 44 blocks in 74 games last year
Battier had 81 blocks in 82 games last year
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Nene is not a shotblocker, but is a damn good post defender. The rockets would need a good shotblocker, but they could get one to bring off the bench.

If we packaged Thabeet with Flynn for a TPE to a team that needs a PG, we could feasably have 17 million in cap space to offer Nene and resign Chuck Hayes.

The only problem with this is that neither Hayes nor Nene are shot blockers though both are great post defenders. This makes them vulnerable to players like Melo and ZBo who can shoot over them. Good thing Melo is no longer in the West though. So the Rockets still need a shot blocker. We have to choose one or the other but not both(choose either Nene or Hayes) to have

we do need a shot blocking defensive big, but it isn't absolutely necessary. mavs won with chandler at center, who avg 1.1bpg in the season and got 19 blocks in 21 playoff games. the only way nene can start for a contender is if he's paired with another good defensive big. him and hayes could be (arguably) the best defensive frontcourt for years.

Shotblocking is usually overrated, too.

Would you rather a guy block 3 shots per game, let his own guy shoot 50% per game, and let others shoot 49% at the rim, or block one shot per game, but hold his guy to 43% shooting inside, and others to 46%?

Honestly I haven't done the math there to even see if the numbers work, because I'm going to sleep, but the concept stands!

i would ask the guy who gets 1 block per game to get more blocks cause it looks sexy on the box score

when i see a defensive 7 footer get 1 block i'm like "ehh, not bad. w/e"

but when i see him get 3 blocks i'm like "god daam n**ga got 3 blocks. sheeeet, n**ga crazy as a muhfu**a. yo n**ga, you see this sh*t? n**ga got 3 blocks"

"oh sh*t 3 blocks? god dayum, dat n**ga crazy hell"

"dat's what im sayin yo, dis lil bitch ass n**ga got one block on the other team, he aint sh*t. i dunno how he shut my team down but he aint sh*t. we finna bust dat **** head open g"

"yeah, we gon cut a n**ga throat tonight"
