Another Power Forward
Another member of the Draft Class of 2009, although he went undrafted
It's a non guaranteed 2 year deal right?

I love the Jeff Adrien pick-up for you guys, great value pick. Adrien is under-sized, but he has the weight and body to be the solid rebounder that he is.

Yea 6'7 beast rebounder on the block, 7'2 wing span, tho he wasnt the college legend as Hayes was.

He played next to Thabeet for 2 seasons at UCONN

He played 22 games for the RG Vipers last year with 19.9 points, 12.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game

sorry i hit quote instead of reply. didn't mean to quote you.

Although if you want to compare their college stats, Jeff's is slightly better and he took his team to the Final Four while Chuck did not. So "college legend" is a subjective term.

Jeff: 133 games 132 starts, 29.6 mpg, 12.1ppg, 8.5 rpg, 1.1 bpg, 1.1 apg, 51.4%FG, 60.6%FT
Chuck: 134 games, 134 starts, 26.2 mpg, 9.0ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.0 bpg, 2.2 apg, 50.2%FG, 73.2%FT
(Wow, in his junior year Chuck's free throw percentage was 78.8%!)

1st of all neither of the guys really started in the freshman year, Hayes started toward the end of his freshman year tho.

Maybe im impartial cause Kentucky was my fav. team when i was a kid.
Hayes brought Kentucky back into the national picture along with Gerald Fitch(who was a rocket for like 10 days) and

Kelenna Azubuike, who was also a Rocket for like 10 days... if u guys recall i wanted him soo bad and everyone mad fun of me calling me names and said Luther Head was way better lolz... yea aside from injuries Azubuike has had a WAY better career.

Anyway Hayes has a lot records for his school and he did it all while being the man for his team.

Jeff Adrien played at UCONN after Okafor and Gordon demolished the country the year before.
He played with Rudy Gay, then Thabeet, and Kemba Walker his last year... he never "lead" his team.
Thabeet was the won who won all the awards and accolades Adrien was like voted to the All conference 3rd team his only award in four seasons.

In short Hayes was the face of his team, brought the team to relevance, and won more individual awards. = College Legend

Dont insult the Wagon!

Adrien was voted all Big East FIRST team not THIRD team in his junior year and he was the team captain of the Final Four squad, so yes he LED them while averaging a double double for the season. Gay was in the NBA already. Thabeet also averaged a double double. Walker was a freshman who came off the bench.

Hayes also played with Keith Bogans (also a Rocket) and Rajon Rondo

Ok so let me get this straight...
Are you denying that Adrien played with better plays than Hayes?

Thabeet was a National player of the year candidate!!!
Just because you are named a team Captain doesn't mean you lead your team, at least in the sense we are talking about.
Was Carmelo a team captain of that Syracuse team? i seriously dont know but doubt it.

Jamar Butler & Ivan Harris were captains of those Buckeye teams with Greg Oden, Conley, Cook etc.
I find it hard for anyone to say Oden didnt lead that team.

Anyway College "legends" will always be determined by their local fans/alumni
and its usually always judge by what they did/meant for the team.
Meaning the year previous to there arrival, the year after their departure, and the time between.

For Adrien he came in AFTER UCONN had been dominating college hoops with Okafor and Gordon
not to Mention, Josh Boone, Marcus Williams, Charlie Villaneva.
During his time there he played with
Rudy Gay
Boone
M. Williams

played with Thabeet his ENTIRE career

and then Kemba who left there after his departure.

Adrien cannot compare to Okafor or Kemba, nor can he compare to Gay or Thabeet.

He just simply will always be overshadowed by those players.

Meanwhile Hayes is a legend as he was arguably the great wildcat under Tubby Smith(6-7 years at Kentucky).
Hayes was the face of that team. I mean Prince(BEAST) came before him KU never got in the tourney.
He played with Azubuike, Bogans, P. Sparks, Fitch, & Rondo(MUCH better pro than collegiate player, dude couldnt shoot) and none of those guys come close to the caliber UCONN put out.

Thabeet was not a National Player of the Year candidate.
He was 2nd team All-American his final college season.

Here is Thabeet's and Adrien's comparable stats during the 09 Final Four season

Thabeet: 31.8 minutes, 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.2 blocks, 0.5 assists
Adrien: 34.6 minutes, 13.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 1.7 assists

Tayshaun Prince never got into the tourney? Kentucky went to the NCAA tournament all 4 years he played there. He led them to the Sweet 16 in 2002.

By the way KU = Kansas Jayhawks. UK = Kentucky Wildcats

texasholdem you seem to like nitpicking
how is being 2nd team All- American(1 of 10 best players in the country) & winner of back to back defensive player of the year awards not make you a candidate for best player in the country?

all those stats show is Adrien didnt lead the team in any category as 13.6 ppg isnt enough to lead a Calhoun team, im sure one of there guards led the team in scoring.

Thabeet was the one getting doubled.

Ok im wrong about Prince teams i do all this off memory, and i was very young, just remember Kentucky not being very good. round of 16 = two wins in the tourney vs. none elite teams

ok so i switched two letters around is it that big of a deal? really...

and FINALLY do you even know what your arguing about, I said Hayes was a legend Adrien was NOT, you keep throwing usless stats around.

If you have the time to look up all the numbers just ask some UCONN Alumni if Adrien is a legend

Jeff Adrien is beloved by the UConn fanbase - he was a lunchpail guy who busted his ass and kept getting better. He was a freshman on the team that lost to George Mason (he actually played better than all the veterans that day) and his sophomore year he was the only player back trying to lead a bunch of raw freshmen. The team struggled badly, predictably (Thabeet couldn't even stay upright as a freshman, and AJ Price was a shadow of himself coming off a 2-year absence) but he grabbed hold of the leadership reins off the court and helped build the team back up to a Final Four two years later. He was the heart and soul of that team. Thabeet was the defensive presence (Adrien drew more double-teams than Thabeet did), AJ Price might have been the most indispensable single player, but Adrien was the heart and soul.

Legend is a loaded word at a program as successful as UConn and Kentucky, because the bar is set so high. Hayes might be a legend to your generation, but in the context of the whole history of the program, no. I'm not buying it. There are 7 national championship teams, All-Americans, etc. and the Pelphrey-Farmer-Woods senior class did far more to restore the reputation of Kentucky basketball than Hayes did. Hayes didn't do anything that his predecessors or successors failed to. Adrien is in the same boat - beloved by the people from that generation, but it would be a stretch to call him a legend.
