Kevin Mchale is running Lowry to the ground.
Take the portland game for example. He started the game 10/12 and finished the game 13/26 after playing 48 minutes with overtime. He was clearly gassed halfway through the 4th quarter.
He just has too many responsibilities.
+he's the primary ball handler and the team's closer
+he has to penetrate and kick out to shooters
+he's pulling down 8 or 9 rebounds daily among trees
+he's pressuring defender with his usual bulldog tenacity
+he has to create a shot for himself off the dribble when his team is cold
+he's taking charges in the lane
all the while playing 40+ minutes in back to back games.
I dont know anybody who to has to do as much as Lowry in the NBA. This is just ridiculous. We have a quality backup in Dragic, Mchale just has to find a way to spell Lowry. He's taking on too many burdens playing too many minutes. Not sustainable.

I don't really mind. Kevin McHale is just finding what works. There's a time where you may work a guy to hard and get him injured, but in this scenario I say let him play. Lowry's putting up magnificent numbers, and he seems to enjoy being our little general. He's young too. I'd agree though, drop his minutes down a scale and he'd be in the perfect scenario.

Re: Kevin Mchale is running Lowry to the ground.
if we're not tanking then lowry is definitely gonna play heavy minutes for the first month. roster changes, new coach, lockout, half the team out of shape and not on the same page, etc etc. usually in situations like that the best players on the team are overplayed for the beginning of the season.
dragic should get more minutes once the team gets on the same page. the bench is inconsistent and that prolly makes things too difficult for him. he is avg the most minutes and assists in his career, and his other stats are similar, no major dropoffs.
if martin can hurry the **** up and have more games like this one vs portland, lowry will be getting a lot more rest. scola needs to step it up too, though not as much as kevin.
things have been getting better slowly as everyone (i hope) expected. only two more games left vs good teams, 7 games at home. after that insane b2b(2b) schedule we came out 5-7, not bad. (if the bench didnt blow the lead on the 2nd okc game we'd be 6-6)

He missed both OKC games so he's fine.

Re: Kevin Mchale is running Lowry to the ground.
I get what you're saying but this really isn't rare especially on a team who is very dependent on a pg(who usually play a lot of minutes) and doesn't have much around him. Lowry is 14th in the league in minutes right next to d.rose, rondo, cp3, and John Wall. You say dragic can play a lot of minutes but dragic is a hit or miss player. He gets out of control and the offense doesn't run well with him sometimes thats why Mchale puts him at the 2 so he can relieve lowry of some of the ball handling duties but still have him in the game. In the Kings game Mchale tried to rest the starters and the bench was playing so bad he had to put the starters back in 5 minutes later. I do think we have a pretty good bench but they're inconsistent. Lowry hasn't been a starter his whole career so he will be fine. I think his minutes will begin to decrease once everyone around him proves they can do their job and the year goes on.

With Martin playing pretty meh the past few games, Kyle is our star.

He is trying to win games. If you play Lowry less, you have less of a chance of winning. Lowry had enough energy to hit that clutch 3. The guy is a human ball of energy. That's his game. He is reckless, giving it all he has. That's what makes him special.

I don't understand why Mchale has so little trust in Dragic.
In two games as starter, Dragic put up 15/9 in 37 minutes. He's prone to erratic play but the Dragon can play.

Re: Kevin Mchale is running Lowry to the ground.
Dragic can't play with the backup unit
he looks terrible running the offense with Hill/Patterson/Bud/Parsons
Martin needs Lowry, Lowry is the only one give him the ball at his sweet spot
Dragic needs to play with big man that can score (Scola), he's looking to pass the ball to big man first (sorry Martin and Bud)
Bud play better when he's playing with Lowry
conclusion
start: Dalembert, Patterson, Budinger, Martin, Lowry
reserve: Hill, Scola, Parsons, Lee, Dragic
need to move Martin and Budinger while they still have some value
need to bring Morris back and play

no he doesn't. he looks good whenever he's on the floor. I'm not saying he is starter worthy but he can definitely play some solid minutes.

Keep Parson in starting lineup we look good.
Also I would rather see us trade Lee, play Flynn as back up pg, with Dragic as back up SG, some minutes at PG.

TRADE COURTNEY LEE? You mean the one really good athlete on our team that consistently plays well and plays both sides of the ball. The only player on our bench that could be a starter right now on other teams in the league? Yea lets trade him so we can get Johnny Flynn some time at pg and move dragic to sg so he can guard the opposing teams sg's. WTF????

^^ Lol, you overrate Lee, yes he is a decent player, but I just see him as a good trade asset and feel we need to trade either him or Martin, along with Hill, Budinger, maybe Scola this season. Get some picks or younger talents.
I'm also having trouble figuring out all these supposed teams in the league where Lee would start... I mean he was traded 3x in his first three years, while getting good minutes. idk

Courtney Lee was traded 2 times. He was a starter for the Orlando Magic who went to the NBA Finals. In the summer he was traded to and started for the New Jersey Nets team that only won 12 games. He then was traded to Houston and hasn't been able to earn the starting job over Martin.
So Lee could start for good and bad teams, depends on the fit. He's a solid player.

^^ Oops meant played for 3 teams in 3 years...
Think about it this way if he was sooo good would a team really trade him his rookie year, the same year they make it to the finals? In fact last time I was on the ORL board(when we played them) all the fans there were talking about how Lee wasnt good, how Von Wafer of all people is better.
Like i said he is a decent player, a back up, u say solid not sure what that means cause i assume u disagree with my view of his skill.

Jazz fan here...
What would you guys think of a trade of Kevin Martin and Johnny Flynn for Devin Harris, Alex Burks, and either CJ Miles or Raja Bell (both expiring)?
Jazz need a wing scorer and Harris isn't fitting in here.
Rockets need a more capable backup to Lowry and Burks is going to develop into a decent player in a few years. CJ or Raja could help ease the loss of Martin, but lets you start Courtney Lee while still having a decent backup. Plus getting rid of Martin's contract wouldn't hurt either.
