Rockets trying to get Kaman?

Post#1 » by rocketseagles07 » Sat Jan 28, 2012 9:17 pm

So New Orleans has officially put Kaman on the block and Adrian Wojnarowski named us as one of the teams trying to make a play for him. They want picks and young players so I don't really see anyone that we could give up that they would want and I'd be willing to see go. But I'm assuming since he's an expiring Morey is really serious going after D-12 and D-Will this summer. What do you guys think>?

If they'd take the 09ers for Kaman then we have to do it. Expirings for expiring. Kaman would be useful and it wouldn't affect our cap next season.

I'd include a second round pick, but that is it as far as Kaman is concerned. Other teams would likely give better offers

Give them the crap expirings plus maybe a second. I'd probably try to keep hill out of it.

Sounds OK to me.

Not sure Kaman would make much of an impact in the 20 minutes or so he's going to play, but he's obviously better than Jordan Hill.

One issue that would need to get resolved is the roster spot limit, as the Hornets already have 14 guys under contract.
They'd have to either trade or waive two guys (one, if it's just three of the '09 lottery guys).
We're most likely talking about Carldell Johnson & DeJuan Summers, so I don't think that's going to be a holdup.

Meh, Dalembert is having a great year I'd rather see him get more minutes. Kaman would only be getting like 18 minutes per night anyway. Plus he's kinda hard to look at too.

SI.com: Houston Rockets trying to acquire Chris Kaman; in the lead for his services
By RAHAT HUQ | FEBRUARY 1, 2012 at 2:07 PM
"The Houston Rockets have had extensive discussions with the New Orleans Hornets about center Chris Kaman and appear to be in the lead to trade for him, numerous sources told SI.com.

While no deal is imminent and the pieces are still being discussed, sources said the talks have involved the Rockets’ two top-10 picks from the 2009 draft — center Hasheem Thabeet (No. 2 by Memphis) and power forward Jordan Hill (No. 8 by New York). The Rockets have other young former first-rounders who could be included as well, among them second-year forward Patrick Patterson, third-year point guard Jonny Flynn and third-year small forward Terrence Williams. They also have a 2012 first-round pick from the Knicks that the Hornets would love to obtain."

If the trade involves Patterson or the 2012 pick then the asking price is to high for a backup center expiring contract or not. It is not like we are sending them contracts with multiple years.

^ I think it's pretty obivous that we're offering Hill, Flynn/T-Will & Thabeet and the Hornets are asking for Hill, Thabeet and Flynn/T-Will + the Knicks pick or Hill, Thabeet and Patterson.

I don't see Morey buding on this one. It's Chris Kaman we're talking about, after all.

NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports the Houston Rockets have had conversations with the New Orleans Hornets in an effort to trade for center Chris Kaman.

However, league sources told FOX 26 the two sides are not close on anything, and the chances of a deal being consumated are low.

I am okay with that. Either way we have cap relief by keeping 09ers or getting Kaman. I guess getting Kaman would make us better but I still want a wing player that can create for himself. Once again I would not mind trading Martin for Beasley if the money works and was possible. Not sure if he can create for himself but it just lets us have more cap space in 2012 and start Lee.

Trade:

N.O. receives
F: Luis Scola - 4 year contract, curently making $8-9 Mil, and declining.
+ mutliyear deal fillers

Houston receives
C: Chris Kaman

We get rid of Scola and his contract and get back $14 mil in expirer who is also a solid 7 footer. At worst we will have $14 mil off the cap in the off season. Plus we get to get rid of some fillers preferably multi year deal bench warmers.

not sure if Kaman has anything left in the tank, but it is worth a shot. also, i think the lakers would be stupid to turn down an offer of scola and dragic for pau. we can throw in flynn too...lol

better yet, a package of scola, martin, and dragic for pau and unknown player would be a good package for both teams.
